One
of the most rewarding aspects of herbgardening is raising new plants. I myself
have never been a gardener of any sort, but the idea of rearing a new plant from
scratch, and ultimately using that plant for all sorts of things is extremely
satisfying. The following methods may be used:
1.
Growing
from seed ie Chives, fennel, feverfew, lovage, rue, salad burnet, pot marygold,
winter savory and chillies. A lot of herbs selfseed easily in situ.
2.
Layering
is a slow but foolproof method of inducing the stem of a woody perennial such as
Sage, Lavender, Rosemary or honeysuckle to make roots of its own while it is
still nourished by the parent plant .
3.
Cuttings
are small portions of stem or root, trimmed off and induced to grow roots of
their own.
