The Butterfly

The Butterfly is one of the basic contact juggling moves that is as important to learn as the cascade is for toss juggling. In case you don't know what contact juggling is, it's where balls roll all over your body and look like they never leave your bodies surface. It is also much harder than toss juggling. With that in mind, heres the butterfly...

The first step in learning the Butterfly starts big. Hold a ball on the back of a hand with your middle finger lowered beneith the rest of your fingers. Here, the ball should have a good place to stay without rolling off. Throw the ball up across your plane of view and catch the ball with the same hand, only this time with your palm. Throw the ball back and catch it with your hand's original position on the back of the hand. Continue doing this, with the throw getting smaller and smaller as you practice eventually making it seem like the ball never leaves your hand and just rolls from the front of the hand to the back of the hand.

Heres the video for this trick. It may help in learning how to do The Butterfly. As a word of warning... When I took this video I was just learning the trick, so the video of the Butterfly is kind of shaky and my hand turns in a weird position which it shouldn't with this trick. With that aside... With most browsers, you can watch the video in a new window, but I have been informed that this doesn't work in new versions of AOL. Save it to you had drive by holding down control and clicking on the link, and then selecting "Download Link to Disk" if you are using a Mac. If you are using a Windows computer, right click on the link and select either "Save Target as" or "Save source as". If nothing works, it means the server has been overloaded and you should try back later...
