1. Augustine
(Augustin, Augustus)1 WEBB was born on 29 Aug 1755 Hanover
County, Virginia.1,2 He married Elizabeth (--?--) circa 1775 in Virginia.3 He married Frances "Franky" CLARKE on 24 Sep 1807 in Shelby County,
Kentucky.4,1 He died on 25 Feb
1835 in Bullitt County, Kentucky, at age 79.1,2
He served twice during the Revolutionary War. He first served seven or eight
months in 1775 or 1776 from Albemarle County, Virginia, as a First Sergeant
under Captain Lewis in Colonel Andrew Lewis' Regiment. They marched to Gwinns
Island and then marched against the Cherokee Indians.1 He moved to
Botetourt County, Virginia, and in Oct 1781 he again volunteered as an ensign in
the regiment of Colonel David Campbell. They marched to Carolina and from there
to Salisbury and then to Cow Pens, where they joined General Daniel Morgan's
army in the Battle of Cow Pens. He was discharged on 15 Apr 1782.1 In
1782 he moved to the Fayette County, Virginia (now Kentucky). (In 1780, Kentucky
County, Virginia, was divided into Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln Counties.
Fayette comprised approximately one-third to one-fourth of the future State of
Kentucky.).1 On 11 Aug 1784, he claimed 29.936
acres on "Cumberland Mt" in Fayette County, Virginia (now Kentucky).5 In
1790, Augustine (Augustin, Augustus) WEBB was listed in the in Fayette County,
Virginia (now Kentucky), tax list. (He was listed as Augustine WEBB).6 In
1792, Kentucky was admitted to the union as a state. That same year, Shelby
County, Kentucky, was formed from Jefferson County. On 10 Apr 1794, Augustine
WEBB "of the County of Orange, State of Virginia" so 1000 acres on Mill Creek, a
branch of the Kentucky River, in Shelby County, Kentucky, to John HANDLY for
five shillings. (The small sum may indicate HANDLY was related, or that
Augustine owed him money.).7 Listed in the 1800 Tax List of
Shelby County, Kentucky, were Augustine WEBB, Jeremiah WEBB, Jeremiah WEBB Sr,
John WEBB, Marradeth WEBB, and Samuel WEBB.8 On 7 Jan 1807,
Augustine WEBB, "of County of Bullitt, Commonwealth of Kentucky" sold seven
acres on South Long Run to James GIBBS Jr, Gally GIBBS, and Mary Ann BIGGS of
Shelby County." The land was located next to Jeremiah WEBB.9 In Apr 1817, he was
named Augustus WEBB in the will of his son, William.10 He apparently
moved from Shelby County to Bullitt County in 1820 since he is listed in the
census in both counties. He was listed on the in 1820 census Shelby County,
Kentucky, (page 142). Other people listed in the 1820 Census index of Shelby

account of the estate sale of Samuel STALLINGS, on 5 Mar 1823, in Bullitt
County, Kentucky, records Augustus WEBB, paid $21.00 for "the Corn in the

of pensioners Bullitt County, Kentucky. On 20 Jul 1835, Joseph RIDGEWAY, John
TRUNNELL, Thomas SIMMONS, and William BRASHEAR were appointed appraisers for the
estate of Augustine WEBB. The estate sale was held 7 Aug 1835.5

uncertainty of life and wishing to disperse of my Estate both real and personal
do make this my last will and testament and Hereby dispose of any Estate in
manner and form following.
It is my wish that my Executors herein after named discharge all my Just debts
and other necessary Expenses after my decease.
I give and bequeath unto my brother Jonathan WEBB the Lott of Ground Situate in
Shelbyville which was Conveyed to me by Michael COLLIER and wife by deed bearing
date 17th May 1815, also a negro boy named Bob together with my horse saddle and
bridles and with all my wearing apparel and four hundred dollars in Cash to be
received by a settlement of the partnership Concer. W. (or Mr.?) WADDY & Co.
unto him the Said Jonathan WEBB and his heirs forever.
I give and bequeath unto William WEBB, son of Jonathan WEBB a mulatto girl about
5 years of age named Adaline to him the Said William and heirs forever and if
the said William Should depart this life without lawful Issue then the Mulatto
girl I give and bequeath to the said William's eldest sister Polly Ann WEBB and
her heirs forever.
I give and bequeath unto my Sister Sally BRITT wife of Thomas BRETT a lot of
Ground Situate in Shelbyville Containing thirty feet in Front and for which I
hold John BRADSHAW's Bond bearing date 21 Feb 1816, also a Negro woman named
Nelly and her child now a Sucking infant together with all my bed, Bedstead and
furniture to the said Sally BRITT and her heirs forever.
Whereas I hold two bonds on my Father Augustus WEBB dated the 19 Nov 1814 also a
bond dated 12 March 1813 which bonds amount in the whole to the Sum $384.42 and
which Sum I give and bequeath to the children of my sister Polly WEBB, wife of
John WEBB to be equally divided between all her children provided however that
the said Augustine WEBB shall not be Committed to pay the Same during his life
time nor Shall his Exor or Admr. be Chargeable with any Interest which may
accuire prior to the Said Augustines decease.
Upon final Settlement of the Mercantile Concern of Webb Waddy & Co. and payment
of the Legatees herein after named out of the amount in my Executor's hands I
Give and bequeath one hundred and fifty dollars out of the money remaining in my
Exors. hands to each of the children of my said Sister Polly WEBB, wife of John
WEBB to them the Said Children and their heirs forever and in Case there Shall
be a Surplus left after the paying to Each Child of the Sum of one hundred and
fifty dollars then one fourth part of such surplus shall be equally divided
among said children and one fourth shall be paid to my brother Jonathan WEBB
and the remaining half to my sister Sally BRITT, wife of Thomas BRITT or his
heirs.
I hereby appoint Jonathan WEBB and James S. WHITAKER Executors of this my last
will and Testament and Revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made. In
Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this day of April 1817

married Samuel DUNCAN on 29 Mar 1801 in Shelby County,
Kentucky. (Her father, Augustine WEBB, was bondsman.).5 She married Thomas BRITT on 31 Dec 1809 in Shelby County, Kentucky. (Her
father, Augustine WEBB, was bondsman.).5
In the will of her brother, William WEBB, she was listed as "my sister Sally
BRITT, wife of Thomas BRITT."13 In Jul 1817, she inherited from
her brother, William WEBB, the "lot of Ground Situate in Shelbyville Containing
thirty feet in Front and for which I hold John BRADSHAW's Bond bearing date 21
Feb 1816, also a Negro woman named Nelly and her child now a Sucking infant."
She also received his "bed, Bedstead and furniture." In addition, each of her
children were to receive $150, plus each of her children were to receive an
equal share of one fourth of the any surplus after settlement of his
estate.13 Thomas BRITT was listed in the
1830 Census of Shelby County, Kentucky (page 128). A Thomas BRITT was listed in
the 1850 Census index for Bullitt County, Kentucky (Belmont Furnace, page 738).

1777 Virginia.5 She married John
WEBB on 7 Aug 1793 in Clark County, Kentucky. (Clark County was formed from
Bourbon and Fayette Counties in 1793.).5
In the will of her brother, William WEBB, she was listed as "my sister Polly
WEBB, wife of John WEBB."13 In Jul 1817, she inherited two
bonds held by her brother, William WEBB from their father Augustine (Augustus)
WEBB. The total value of the bonds was $384.42, however they were not payable
until after Augustine's death. In addition, each of her children were to receive
an equal share of one half of the any surplus after settlement of his
estate.13

was born circa 1789.15 Conflicting evidence indicates he
was born circa 1794 in Kentucky. (He would have been 15 when married if born in
1794.).5 He married Amy
Elizabeth PARIS (PARRISH), daughter of Robert Alexander PARIS
and Anne (Polly Ann) HOWE, on 1 Feb 1809 in Shelby County,
Kentucky. (Dodd reads: Jonathan WEBB and Anna PARIS. VRI reads: Jonattian WEBB
and Ama PARRIS.).16,17 Conflicting
evidence indicates he and Amy Elizabeth PARIS (PARRISH) were
married on 12 Jan 1809 in Shelby County, Kentucky. (They probably obtained a
marriage license on 12 Jan and were likely married on 1 Feb 1809.).18,2 He died in Apr 1829
in Shelby County, Kentucky.19

1850 census, she was born circa 1790 in Virginia.24 She married John KEENE on 3 May 1842 in Shelby County, Kentucky.18
Her is listed as head of household on the 8 Oct 1850 census District 2, Shelby
County, Kentucky, as Amy KEINR?. The census listed her as age 60, born in
Virginia.24 About 1855, Amy moved to Audrain
County, Missouri, with her sons Jonathan and Joseph.19 She died in 1856
in Memphis, Scotland County, Missouri.18,23 Additional
information indicated she died in Feb 1856.22 After the Civil
War, they moved to Scotland County, where her daughter, Rebecca, was
living.19

away from his Kentucky home at the age of eight (actually he was fifteen when

cook on a sailing vessel. He went to sea and remained there five years without
the knowledge or consent of mother or stepfather. After the death of his
stepfather, he went home where he worked on his mother's farm.22
