Peter RUNYON

Generation One

1. Peter1 RUNYON was born on 1 Jul 1680 Piscataway, East Jersey Province (now New Jersey).1 He married Providence BLACKFORD, daughter of Samuel BLACKFORD and Anne (Hannah) SMALLEY, on 12 Oct 1704 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1,2 He wrote a will on 20 Sep 1750.3 He died in Oct 1753 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey, at age 73.2 Conflicting evidence indicates he died on 1 Oct 1755 New Jersey.4

He emigrated to the Passaic Valley in NJ about 1730. His descendants are numerous in Somerset and Morris Counties. Leonard lists only the nine children recorded in the Piscataway Town Records, excluding Vincent, Anne, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Samuel.

Providence BLACKFORD was born in 1683.5 She died in 1760.

Generation Two

3. Grace2 RUNYON (Peter1) was born on 17 Jan 1706/7 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 She married Judge Daniel COOPER, son of William COOPER, on 17 Apr 1726.4 She died in Nov 1755 at age 48.4

Judge Daniel COOPER. He was a First Settler of New Brunswick. He is said to have been born at sea. He settled at Piscataway, Middlesex, NJ, and finally in Passaic Valley, Morris, NJ. He was appointed Justice for Morris Co, NJ, in 1739 and served until 1759 when he was appointed Judge for Morris Co. It is said that he had a sister Anne who married Issac Van COURT Sr, since the latter calls him "brother-in-law" in his will. He was born on 1 May 1695.3 Conflicting evidence indicates he was born on 7 May 1699.7 He married Jane WESTBROOK after 1755. He married Grace MANNING before 1777. He married Mrs Fanny JONES after 1777. He married Barbary Margaret GIBBS in 1788. He married Mrs Hannah MARTIN after 1789. He died on 2 May 1795 at age 100. He died in May 1799.7

5. Joseph2 RUNYON (Peter1) was born on 1 Apr 1710 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 He married Elizabeth TREMBLY, daughter of Jean (John) TREMBLY and Mary NOE, in 1735.4 Conflicting evidence indicates he and Elizabeth TREMBLY were married circa 1739.3 He wrote a will on 16 May 1760.3 He died before 14 Jul 1760.3 His will was probated on 14 Jul 1760.

He was a witness and assisted in the inventory in the estate of William AKER (ACRE) of Amwell, Hunterdon, NH, 1760, who was one of the First Settlers there, having associated himself with John and Thomas RUNYON when they removed from Piscataway.

6. Rosanna2 RUNYON (Peter1) was born on 16 Nov 1712 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 She married George DAVIDSON (DAVISON).4

George DAVIDSON (DAVISON) wrote a will on 29 Oct 1765.3 He died after 29 Oct 1765.3 His will was probated on 4 Aug 1767.3

7. Peter2 RUNYON Jr (Peter1) was born on 25 Jul 1715 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 He married Mary DUNN, daughter of Samuel DUNN and Esther MARTIN, circa 1738.3,4 He died after 1750/51.3

Mary DUNN was born on 21 Jul 1719 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.3

9. Richard2 RUNYON (Peter1) was born on 14 Apr 1719 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 He married Jane (Jeane) Van COURT, daughter of Elias Van COURT and Anne COOPER, in 1745.4

Jane (Jeane) Van COURT was born on 13 Aug 1727.8

13. Benjamin2 RUNYON (Peter1) was born on 21 Dec 1729 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 He married Ann (Anna) Van COURT (twin), daughter of Elias Van COURT and Anne COOPER, on 5 Jun 1749.10 He died on 3 Nov 1785 at age 55.4

Ann (Anna) Van COURT (twin) was born on 27 Aug 1730.4 She died on 19 Aug 1805 at age 74.4

21. Benjamin3 COOPER (Grace2RUNYON, Peter1). Benjamin COOPER and Charity HOFF had no children. He was born in Dec 1741. He married Charity HOFF before 1763. He married his second wife (--?--) after 1763. He died in Dec 1794.

Charity HOFF died in May 1763.

Margaret LAFFERTY was born in 1743. She died in Apr 1825.

51. Sarah3 RUNYON (Richard2, Peter1) was born on 30 Mar 1745/46.4 She married Elias CORIELL, son of David CORIELL and Elsie SLECHT.4 She died in 1820.4

Daniel3 RUNYON (Benjamin2, Peter1) was born in 1750 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.6,11 He married Ann LENOX (LENNOX) circa 1771.2 He married Rachel MORRIS, daughter of Daniel MORRIS and Rachel (--?--), circa 1785 New Jersey.2,10 He died circa 1815 Mayslick, Mason County, Kentucky.2 His will was probated on 9 May 1815 Mason County, Kentucky.2

After the death of his first wife, he remarried, and in 1787 moved his family to Kentucky. They came by the Wilderness Road and settled at Mayslick, Mason Co. He purchased land at or near Mayslick and held much valuable land in Mason County. He also owned several slaves. He was listed in the Mason Co, KY tax books on on 12 Jun 1794 (he was taxed for four horses and 39 cattle), 4 Aug 1796 (he was taxed for 125 acres of land, six cattle, and seven 4-wheeled carriages), 26 Apr 1803 (taxed one black over 16, one total black, and four horses), 20 Jun 1805 (taxed for 142 acres of land near Lee's Creek, one white male 16 to 21, one black over 16, three total blacks, and five horses), 11 Jun 1806 (three white males 16 to 21, one black over 16, four total blacks, and five horses), 24 Jul 1807 (one white male 16 to 21, one black over 16, four total blacks, and 6 horses), 2 Jun 1808 (one white male 16 to 21, one black over 16, five total blacks, and 4 horses), and (date unknown) 1809 (one white male 16 to 21, five total blacks, and four horses). From 1805 on he owned 142 acres of land near Lee's Creek.

Joel DUNN was born on 22 Oct 1747.3 He died on 21 Jul 1845 at age 97.6 Conflicting evidence indicates he died on 27 Jul 1845.3

Reune RUNYON was born on 7 Jul 1766 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.1 He died on 19 Jun 1855 at age 88.4

The six known children of Jane4 RUNYON and Savage WRIGHT were as follows:

142. Ruth4 RUNYON (Daniel3, Benjamin2, Peter1) was born on 5 Mar 1775 New York or New Jersey.6 Conflicting evidence indicates she was born on 7 Jan 1776.16 Conflicting evidence indicates she was born on 7 Jan 1776 Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey.10 She and Shadrach D. NORTHCUTT obtained a marriage license on 22 Mar 1796 Mason County, Kentucky. (On 22 Mar 1796, Daniel RUNYON consented to the marriage of his daughter, Ruth, to Shadrack NORTHCUTT).17 She married Shadrach D. NORTHCUTT after 22 Mar 1796 Mason County, Kentucky. She died on 10 Mar 1867 at age 92.16 Conflicting evidence indicates she died on 10 Feb 1868 Concord Township, Champaign County, Ohio.18 She is buried Nettle Creek Cemetery, Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio. (Tombstone reads: "Ruth, wife of S. D. Northcutt, Died 3/10/1867, Age 91y 2m 3d").19

She was enumerated with Shadrach D. NORTHCUTT on the 1850 census Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as Ruth NORTHCUTT. She was listed as (no age) born in New York.20 She was listed on the In 1860, Ruth NORTHCUTT was living with her daughter, Harriet NEESE, in Concord, Champaign, OH.

Shadrach D. NORTHCUTT was born on 4 Mar 1774 South Carolina.16 Additional evidence indicates he was born circa 1774 South Carolina.21 Shadrick NORTHCUT was listed in the Mason Co, KY, tax books on 15 Apr 1796 (one white male over 21). Since he was at least 21 on 15 Apr 1796, he must have been born before 15 Apr 1775. On 30 Jan 1801 he purchased property on High Street in Paris, Bourbon, KY. The deed reads:

This indenture made this thirtieth day of January in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one. Between Joseph Duncan and Anne his wife of the town of Paris in the county of Bourbon and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and Shadrach D. Northcot of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Joseph Duncan and Ann his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid by the said Shadrach D. Northcot and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, aliened and confirmed, and do by these presents, grant, bargain and sell, alien and confirm unto the said Shadrach D. Northcot, his heirs executors and administrators the following part of and ____ lott or parcel of ground, situate in the bounds of the aforesaid town of Pairs on High Street, and known and distinguished on the general plan or platt of the said town by its number (23), beginning at the most northwardly corner of the lott, on High Street aforesaid, and measuring in front on said street thirty three feet and extending back one hundred seven and a half feet. Together with all houses, buildings and improvements thereon, with every singular profit and advantage whatsoever to the said premises belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversions, remunders, rents, issues and profits thereof, and all the estate right, title, interest claim and demands of them the said Joseph Duncan and Anne his wife and their heirs, of, in and to the same. To have and to hold, the said described part of a lot or parcel of ground and premises hereby conveyed and every part thereof with the appurtenances to him the said Shadrach D. Northcot his heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use, benefit and behoof of him the said Shadrach D. Northcot his heirs and assigns forever and the said Joseph Duncan and Anne his wife for themselves and their heirs the said part of a lot or parcel of ground and premises and every part thereof with the appurtenances against the claim and demand of themselves and their heirs and against the claim and demand of all and every other person or persons whatsoever to him the said Shadrach D. Northcot and to his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Joseph Duncan and Anne his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

On 19 oct 1801, he sold their property in Paris, Bourbon, KY. The deed filed in Bourbon County reads:

This indenture made this day of October in the year of Our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and one between Shadrach D. Northcut and Ruth his wife of the town of Paris in the County of Bourbon and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and William Paton of the same place of the other part, witnesseth that the said Shadrach D. Northcut and Ruth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of sixty nine pounds, current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid by the said William Paton, at and before, the sealing of these presents the recept of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargained and sold, aliened and confirmed and do by these presents grant, bargain and sell, alien and confirm unto the said William Paton his heirs executors and administrators the following part of ___ lott or parcel of ground situate in the bounds of the aforesaid town of Paris on High Street and known and distinguished on the general plan or platt of the said town by its number, 23, beginning at the most northwardly corner of the said lott on High Street aforesaid and measuring in front on said street thirtythree feet and extending back one hundred seven and a half feet. On 3 Jun 1803, he was again listed in the Mason Co tax books as Shadrick NORTHCUT with one white male over 21 and one horse. In Apr 1804 (date unknown), the Mason County tax list recorded Shadrick NORTHCUT with one white male over 21, one white male 16 to 21, and 1 horse. The Mason County tax list, dated 7 Jun 1805, recorded one white male over 21. The Kentucky Gazette mentioned Shadrick as being from May's Lick. Mason County tax books state he was living "south of the North Fork." Mason Co tax books show he was taxed for the 20 acres of land on Bracken Creek in 1805 and 1806. On 6 Mar 1806 he bought twenty acres of land on Bracken Creek from Philemon THOMAS for "fifty pounds current money of Kentucky." A description of their land follows:

Twenty acres situate lying and being in the County of Mason and on the waters of Bracken and bounded as follows viz Beginning at a hackberry on John Hopkin's old line and corner to Jesse Pepper thence North 10¼ East thirty four and one half poles to a beach on the east side of the road, and an ash on the west side, thence North twenty nine west seventy five poles to a large beech and sugartree thence S56 west thirty four and half poles to a beech and hiccory thence N79 west three and half poles to a beech thence South 30 west ten poles to a hickory and sugartree thence S79 East one hundred and seven poles to the Beginning together with all and singular the houses buildings, watercourses, profits commodities, hereditaments, and apportenances whatsoever to the same, belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the only proper use and behoof of him the said S.D. Northcut, his heirs and assignees forever.

The Mason County Tax lists, dated 12 Jun 1806, recorded one white male over 21.

Shadrach D. and Ruth sold their property on 2 Jun 1807 to Andrew Smalley Jr for one hundred eighty dollars. It must have been shortly after this that they moved to Ohio.

He was one of the pioneers of Champaign County, OH (which was created in 1805 from Green and Franklin Counties and originally comprised the counties of Clark and Logan). He lived on a farm southwest of Westville, near Terre Haute. He is listed in the Poll Book as a voter in the election held in Madriver Township, 8 Oct 1811.22 He was a member of the Grand Jury on the 3rd Monday of January, 1812, in the Court of Common Pleas, Urbana, Champaign, OH.23 In 1815, he was elected a Trustee of Mad River Township.24,25 On 14 Apr 1816, he was among those designated to work on the "State road leading from Urbana to Troy" by the Trustees of Mad River Township in 1816. They were to "begin at the crossing of "Nettle Cricke" and to work the west end as far as the township line.26 On 15 Oct 1816, he purchased eighty one acres from Elijah Bell for $161. The deed, filed in Champaign Co Deed Book C, page 302, reads:

This indenture made this fifteenth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixteen, between Elijah Bell of the County of Champaign and State of Ohio of the one part and Shadrick D. Northcutt of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Elijah Bell for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and sixty one dollars current money of the United States of America to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and forever acquit and discharge the said Shadrack D. Northcutt his heirs, executorsx and administrators and hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the said Shadrack D. Northcutt his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Champaign and State aforesaid (viz) that is beginning at the south west corner of section number fourteen in range eleventh and Township the forth and running from said corner east eighty one poles from thence north one hundred and sixty poles from thence west eighty one poles from thence south one hundred and sixty poles concluding in the whole eighty one acres, together with all improvements, water courses, profits and appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises belonging or in any wise appertaining and the revertions, remainders and profits thereof and all the estate, right, title, interest, property claim and demand of him the said Elijah Bell of, in and to the same to have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed with all and singular the premises in and every part and parcel thereof, with every of the appurtenances unto the said Shadrack D. Northcutt his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behalf of him the said Shadrack D. Northcutt his heirs and assigns forever and the said Elijah bell for his heirs and assigns, executors and administrators do covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Shadrack D. He was enumerated on the 1820 census Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as S. D. NORTHCUTT. The census lists his household as one male under 10 (Jeptha, age 3); two males 10-15 (Willis, 10-15, and Runyon, about 15); one male 45 and over (Shadrach, age 46); two females under 10 (Angelia, age 1 and Harriet, age 5); two females 16-25 (Margaret, age 16-20, and Lydia, age 18); and one female 45 and over (Ruth, age 45).27 In 1821 he was elected Justice of the Peace for Mad River Township.

28 He was enumerated on the 1830 census Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as Shaderic D. NORTHCUT. The census lists his household as one male 10-14 (Jeptha, age 13), one male 50-59 (Shadrach, age 56), two females 15-19 (Angelia was 11, Harriet, age 15), and one female 50-59 (Ruth, age 55).29 He was enumerated on the 1840 census Mad River, Champaign County, Ohio, as S. D. NORTHCUTT. The census lists his household as one male 60-69 (Shadrach, age 66), one female 20-29 (Harriet, age 25), and one female 60-69 (RUth, age 65).30 A deed, filed in Champaign Co Deed Book V, page 112, reads:

Know all men that Shadrach D. Northcutt and Ruth his wife of the County of Champaign and State of Ohio in consideration of the sum of one thousand and five hundred dollars in hand paid by Noah Neese of the same place have bargained and sold and do hereby grant bargain sell and convey unto the said Noah Neese his heirs and assigns forever the following premises situate in the county of Champaign in the state of Ohio and in the Miami River Survey and bounded and described as follows: Beginning at the South West corner of section number fourteen in Range eleven and township four and running from said corner east eighty one poles, thence north one hundred and sixty poles, thence west eighty one pole; thence south one hundred and sixty poles to the beginning containing eighty one acres. To have and to hold said premises with the appurtenances unto the said Noah Neese his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Shadrach D. Northcutt for himself and heirs doth hereby covenant unto said Noah Neese his heirs and assigns that he is lawfully seized of the premises aforesaid, and that the premises are free and clear fromm all incumbrances whatever; and that he will forever warrant and defend the same with the appurtenances unto the said Noah Neese his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. Shadrach D. is listed as head of household on the 1850 census Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as Shadrick NORTHCUTT. The census listed him as age 76, a farmer, born in South Carolina. Enumerated with him were Ruth RUNYON, Noah NEESE, Harriett NORTHCUTT, Joseph H. NEESE, and Jeptha W. NEESE.20 He left a will on 11 Jul 1850. [pp] will reads as follows: In the name of God Amen. I Shadrach D. Northcut have taken with consideration of the uncertainty of this present life and being well stricken in years though of sound mind yet feeble in body have thought my duty to make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (viz). It is my will that all my just debts shall be first paid. I also will and bequeath to my beloved wife all of the money that may be on hand or out in interest be it more or less. Also my carriage, horse and harness together with all the personal property in or about the house on which we have a claim (viz.) three beds and bedding, one bureau, eight chairs, one mantle clock, one gilded cooking ____, one small table with a variety of books and maps during her natural life but after he decease whatever remains of the personal property shall be sold to the best advantage and when collected together with the money that is now or may be standing out it is my will that it shall be divided amongst my Heirs as follows (viz). One equal share to Lydia Baker. One equal share to Elizabeth Owens if she is living, but if deceased it is not to be descended to any children for it is not my will that any of them shall have one dollars worth of Estate but her share in that case to be divided with my other heirs. One equal share which would have fell to my daughter Margaret Kizer deceased I will to her son Perry Kizer, but not any of the rest of Michael Kizers sons do I will anything. One equal share to be divided amongest my son Runyons Heirs Viz: John, Emily and Edmon Northcut. One equal share to my son Willis Northcut. One equal share to my daughter Angelia Eve Miller. As to my daughter Hariet Nees I think that I have put enough in her hands and her heirs hands without bequeathing them any more. As to my son Jeptha Northcut he has rec'd one hundred dollars on account for his share be it more or less for which I paid his receipt. Northcut late of Champaign County deceased was presented in Court by Jonathan Northcut the Executor Wherin named and thereupon John S. He was an active businessman and is often mentioned in the early history of Mason County. He was one of the first trustees of Mayslick, when it was organized 1 Feb 1837. He operated a general store in Lewis Co, KY, for a few years before 1850; he returned to Mason County in 1850 and established a drug store there. He and his family are listed in both the Lewis and Mason counties for the 1850 census.

He was a saddler and harness maker in Champaign Co, OH. In 1830, he and his wife are recorded as being between 20-29, with one son and one daughter both under the age of 5. Middleton's History of Champaign Co lists him as being born in 1795. His tombstone records his age as 29y 9m ?d, which would make his birthdate Mar 1805. Lucinda had two children after the death of Runyon in 1834. Joseph, born 1841, and WIlliam, born 1845. They were living with Lucinda in the 1850 census. They were not listed by Shadrach in his will dated 1850.

Lucinda PENCE. Willis was not listed in the 1840 Census, but his wife, Lucinda, is listed being between 30-39 (with another female 30-39), and daughter (Emily) 5-9, and two sons (John & Edward) 5-9. In 1850, the Census listed Lucinda, age 41, living in Madison Twp, with their four younger children, Emily, age 18, Edward, age 16, "Jos" (Joseph), age 8, and "Wm H", age 4. She was born in 1810 Urbana Township, Champaign County, Ohio.35 She was enumerated on the 1840 census Mad River, Champaign County, Ohio, as Lucinda Northcutt. The census lists her household as two males 5-9 (Edmund, age 6, and John, and 10), one female 5-9 (Emily, age 8), and two females 30-39 (Lucinda, age 30). It is unknown who the other female was.39 Lucinda is listed as head of household on the 1850 census Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as Lucinda Northcutt. The census lists her as age 41, born in Ohio. Enumerated with her were Emily J. NORTHCUTT, Edmund (Edward) Runyon NORTHCUTT, Joseph Pence NORTHCUTT, and William H. NORTHCUTT.40 She died on 10 Feb 1860 Urbana Township, Champaign County, Ohio.35,24

Willis is listed as head of household on the 1830 census Salem Township, Champaign County, Ohio, as Willis Northcut. The census lists his household as one male under 5, one male 20-29 (Willis), one female under 5, and one female 20-29 (wife, Sally).29 Circa 1839 Willis NORTHCUTT moved to Sangamon County, Illinois. (Dollie Northcutt states "At death of husband, Sarah with seven children removed to Sangamon Co, Ill., 1839, m. 2nd. Mr Smith, Removed to Oregon where she died 1871."

Based on the dates of birth for the last four children, Willis must not have died until after 1848. A Willis NORTHCUT married Emily GREENE 18 May 1847 in Sangamon County, Illinois. It is possible Willis and Sarah were divorced and Willis remarried. Evidence also indicates he may not have died in Illinois, but may have moved to Oregon).43,41 The 1860 census lists a Willis NORTHCUTT, living alone, in Willamette Precinct, Yamhill County, Oregon. He was age 49, carpenter, born in Ohio.44 The 1870 census lists a Willis NORTHCUTT, living alone, in Dallas Precinct, Polk County, Oregon. He was age 61, farmer, owning real estate worth $500 and personal property worth $600, born in Ohio.45

Sarah (Sally) TURMAN. According to the 1830 census, she was born between 1801 and 1810.29 Additional evidence indicates she was born Ohio.43 According to the 1870 census, she was born circa 1809 Ohio.46 She married Mr (--?--) SMITH. She was enumerated with Edward J. NORTHCUTT on the 14 Jun 1860 census Deer Creek Precinct, Josephine County, Oregon, as Sarah SMITH. She was listed as age 52, midwife, born in Ohio.47 She was enumerated on the 6 Jul 1870 census Fairfield Precinct, Marion County, Oregon, as Sarah SMITH. She was listed as age 61, keeping house, born in Ohio. She was living with her sons, Shadrach, William, and Salathiel NORTHCUTT. NEESE, and Josephine NEESE.55 She was enumerated with Joseph H. NEESE on the 1 Jun 1880 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Ohio, as Harriet NEESE. A deed, filed in Champaign County Deed Book Y, page 24, reads: Know all men that we Noah Neese and Harriet Neese, his wife, of Champaign County Ohio, for and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars in hand paid by William Lee of the same place, the receipt wherof is acknowledged, do hereby give, grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said William Lee, and unto his heirs and assigns forever, the following premises, to wit: a strip of land one rod in width off the south end of the tract of land conveyed to said Noah Neese by Shadrach D. Northcutt dec'd, being eighty one acres out of the south west quarter of section fourteen, town four and range eleven in Champaign County Ohio. To have and to hold said premises with the appurtenances unto him the said William Lee, and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Noah Neese for himself and his heirs does hereby covenant to and with said William Lee, that he will forever warrant and defend said premisis with the appurtenances unto him the said William Lee, his heirs and assigns, against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. According to the 1880 census, she was born circa 1842 Iowa.86 According to the 1870 census, she was born circa 1849 Iowa.85 According to the 1910 census, she was born circa 1850 Iowa.87 She was enumerated with Jesse H. NORTHCUTT on the 27 Jun 1870 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Mary E. NORTHCUTT. She was listed as age 21, housekeeper, born in Iowa.85 She was enumerated with Jesse H. NORTHCUTT on the 6 Jul 1880 census New Buda Township, Decatur County, Iowa, as Mary NORTHCUTT. She was listed as age 38, wife, married, keeping house. She was born in Iowa, her father was born in Indiana, and her mother was born in Kentucky.86 She died in 1941.90 She is buried Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, Grant County, Oklahoma.90

He was listed as age 3, born in Ohio.63 He was enumerated with Jeptha NORTHCUTT on the 27 Jun 1870 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Shadrach NORTHCUTT. He was listed as age 22, born in Ohio.61 Shadrach Daily is listed as head of household on the 1 Jun 1880 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Shadrick D. NORTHCUTT. The census listed him as age 29, married, farmer. He and both of his parents were born in Ohio. Enumerated with him were Mary Jane FALLIS, Cora Mae NORTHCUTT, and Warren A. NORTHCUTT.91 His name is inscribed on the Homesteaders Memorial, located at the County Courthouse in Medford, Grant County, Oklahoma. The monument reads:

To the homesteaders and early settlers of Grant County this monument is gratefully dedicated. In recognition of their courage in the face of untold hardships the descendants sincerely acknowledge their sense of obligation.

These early Grant County settlers were among some 100,000 who lined up September 16, 1893 to race for a 160 acre claim. The homesteads scattered throughout an area comprising six million acres. The award went to the first person arriving, planting their stake and duly registering their location at the land office.

Others while not actually making the run acquired the land at an early date, either by purchase or barter, lived on it and raise their families and together with the homesteaders became the early pioneer settlers of Grant County, laying the foundation for our modern society. He was a farmer in Grant Co, OK.

Mary Jane FALLIS was born in 1851 Harrison County, Missouri. He was listed as age 21, born in Ohio.61 Jesper (Jasper) is listed as head of household on the 25 Jun 1880 census South of South Fork Solomon River, Bryant Township, Graham County, Kansas, as Jesper NORTHCUTT. The census listed him as age 31, married, farmer (unemployed 4 months). He and both of his parents were born in Ohio. Enumerated with him were Hannah Ann MAGEE, Olive Viola "Ollie" NORTHCUTT, Oscar Elmer NORTHCUTT, and Catharine Elizabeth "Lizzie" NORTHCUTT.100

She was listed as age 31, wife, married, keeping house. She was born in Indiana and both of her parents were born in Kentucky.100 The 1896 Gentry County, Missouri, Atlas, listed H. A. NORTHCUTT owning 34 acres in Section 1, Township 62, Range 30.103 She was enumerated with Katherine A. "Kittie" (--?--) on the Jun 1900 census White Oak Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Hannah A. NORTHCUTT. She was listed as widowed, age 51, born in Jan 1849. She had five children and four were still living. She was born in Indiana and her parents were both born in Kentucky.102 She died on 26 Apr 1910 (prob) Harrison County, Missouri, at age 61.10 She is buried Foster Cemetery, Butler Township (S of New Hampton), Harrison County, Missouri. MITCHELL and Elizabeth "Betty" FLINT, on 10 Feb 1878 Harrison County, Missouri.109 He died on 14 Apr 1940 Deer Creek, Grant County, Oklahoma, at age 86.107 He is buried Bayard Cemetery, SW of Deer Creek, Grant County, Oklahoma.107,110

He was enumerated with Jeptha NORTHCUTT on the 27 Jun 1870 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Willis NORTHCUTT. He was listed as age 16, born in Ohio.61 At a young age, he moved, with his family, to MO. In 1905, he and his family moved to Grant Co, OK, where he farmed until 1934 when he moved to Deer Creek. He died at the home of his daughter, Susie Griffin, near Medford. Willis Ellis is listed as head of household on the 1 Jun 1880 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Willis NORTHCUTT. The census listed him as age 27, married, farmer. He was born in Iowa and both of his parents were born in Ohio. Enumerated with him were Martha Isabelle MITCHELL and George MITCHELL.108

HOGUE on 20 Jun 1888 Decatur County, Iowa.128 She died on 25 Apr 1954 Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa, at age 97.127 She is buried Old Cemetery, Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa.127

She was enumerated with Jeptha NORTHCUTT on the 27 Jun 1870 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Mary R. NORTHCUTT. She was listed as age 14, born in Ohio.61 She was the last living member of the nine children. As a small child, she moved with her family to Kansas by way of a covered wagon. Later, due to her mother's illness, the family moved to a farm near Bethany, MO. She took the responsiblity of caring for her invalid mother for seven years. After her mother's death, she moved to IA. Although she was blind practically all her life she enjoyed sewing for others.

Greenbury M. HOGUE. He ran a hardware and tin shop in Davis City, Decatur, IA. He was a private with Company C, 105th Indiana Infantry. He was born circa 1839. He died on 10 Apr 1909 Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa. Conflicting evidence indicates he died on 16 Mar 1909.128

The six known children of Mary (C. or R.) "Minnie"6 NORTHCUTT and Greenbury M. HOGUE were as follows:
