1. Clement1 CORBIN was born in 1626 England.1 He married Dorcas BUCKMASTER, daughter of Thomas BUCKMASTER and Joanna (Joan) (--?--), on 7 Mar 1655/56 Muddy River, Brookline, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. His exact birthplace is not known. A family tradition state that he was "from the west of England, called a Welchman." The names of his parents are not known definitely. Lawson references an ancestral chart of "the late Ernest A. Corbin" giving John & Margaret CORBIN. He states "I have not been able to find his authority for this, but it seems probable, as both names were common in the family later." Another tradition is that the Corbins were of French Huguenot origin. This is entirely possible, as there were and still are many Corbins in France.
He is said to have come to America in 1637, but again, there is no authority. At this time he would have been only eleven yeard old. Hence, if he came then, he must have had some older relative with him, probably his cousin Robert, who was in Massachusetts in 1637, or his parents, as there were other Corbins in Massachusetts at an early date.
In the fall of 1656 he bought 42 acres of land at Muddy River in Boston, as shown by the Suffolk Deeds, Boston, Vol II, p 303. He again bought land at Muddy River in 1663. Muddy River is now Brookline. It joined Roxbury, and there his family worshiped in the old First Church. His name appears on the tax lists at Muddy River as late as 31 Dec 1691. Although by this time he had probably moved to Connecticut, he still retained property at his former home.
At a town meeting held at Woodstock, 7 Jan 1688, ther "was granted to Clemt Corbin a 20 acre lott wth all Rights provided he pay all charges past present and to come, according to his proportion.
