Generation One

1. Mr1 AKERS. Since there are at least three children here, it seem probable that they came with one or both of their parents. Thomas and Benjamin ACRES were in Fayette County, Kentucky, by 1796. In 1799, Jessamine County was formed out of Fayette Co and in 1800 a Thomas AKERS Senior and a Thomas AKERS Junior were in Jessamine County.

The four known children of Mr1 AKERS and an unknown spouse were as follows:

Generation Two

2. Fredrick2 AKERS (AKES) (Mr1AKERS) was born circa 1765 (prob) Baden, Germany.1,3,2 According to the 1810 census, he was born between 1766 and 1784.4 He married his wife. He married Elizabeth PRICE on 14 Sep 1807 in Lincoln County, Kentucky.1,3 He died in 1857.3

Peter ACRES was listed in the Jessamine Co tax list in 1799. In 1800, Peter AKERS, Thomas AKERS Sr, and Thomas AKERS Jr were listed in Jessamine Co. The 27 Apr 1802 tax list for Jessamine Co, lists Frederick and Peter AKERS. Also listed are Thomas AKERS on 28 Apr 1802 and Thomas AKERS on 3 Aug 1802. In 1806 John AKERS is listed on the tax lists of Jessamine Co. In the 1808 and 1809 tax lists, both Frederick and Peter were in Lincoln Co. In 1810, Rockcastle Co was created out of Jessamine County. About this same time, Frederick and Peter seem to have changed their name to AKES. His was enumerated on the 1810 census Rockcastle County, Kentucky, as Frederick AKES. His household was listed as three males under 10, two males 16-25, one male 26-44, one female under 10, one female 10-15, and one female (his wife) 26-44.4 There is a good possibility that one or two of the younger children listed in the 1810 census were the children of Frederick's second wife, Elizabeth. In 1811 both Frederick and Peter are listed in the Rockcastle County tax list. The 1813 Rockcastle County tax list includes Frederick Merideth, Peter, and William AKIS. In 1816, Merideth, Peter and Frederick AKES are listed in the Rockcastle County tax list. He was listed on the in 1820 census Rockcastle County, Kentucky, In 1820, still in Rockcastle Co, he is listed as over 45 and his wife is 26-44. 1824 is the last year Frederick is recorded in the Rockcastle County tax list.

4. Peter2 AKERS (AKES) (Mr1AKERS) was born on 24 Oct 1771 Baden, Germany.5,6,2 He married Priscilla (--?--). He married Susannah HARRIS on 16 Jul 1811 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky.5,7 He died on 23 Aug 1835 at age 63.8,2 He is buried in Macoupin County, Illinois.1

In 1799, Peter ACRES was listed in the Jessamine County, Kentucky, tax list. The same year, he signed as a witness for the will of Charles WEBBER. In 1800 he was listed as an Ensign, 9th Regiment. The 1800 Jessamine County, tax list, records Peter AKERS, Thomas AKERS Sr, and Thomas AKERS Jr. The 1802 Jessamine County tax lists record the following: 27 Apr 1802, Peter and Frederick AKERS, 28 Apr 1802, Thomas AKERS, and 3 Aug 1802, Thomas AKERS. In Mar 1804, Jessamine Co was divided into four sections. The eastward side of the Hickman River was divided into two districts by Todd Road, and Peter, whose house was on the west side of the road was appointed constable of the upper, or North district. He resigned in Dec 1805. The 1806 Lincoln County tax lists records Peter AKES. The 1808 and 1809 Lincoln County tax lists, show both Peter and Frederick AKES. His was enumerated on the 1810 census Rockcastle County, Kentucky, as Peter AKES. His household was listed as two males under 10, two males 10-15, one male 16-25, two females under 10, three females 10-15, one female 16-25, and one female 26-44.4 In 1810, Rockcastle Co was formed out of Jessamine Co. About this same time, Peter and Frederick seem to have changed their name to AKES. The 1811 Rockcastle County tax list show both Peter and Frederick AKES. The 1813 Rockcastle County tax list includes Merideth, Peter, Frederick, and William AKIS. On the 1816 Rockcastle tax tlst, Frederick, Merideth, and Peter are listed. Sometime between 1816-1820, Peter and his second wife, Susannah, moved their family to Daviess Co, KY. In 1824 and 1825 he was in Todd and Logan Counties, living on the WIpperwill. By 1827 they moved to Macoupin Co, IL, where he built a horse mill on Macoupin Creek. He purchased forty acres of land (NENW, Section 10, Township 10N, Range 6W, Meridian 3) in Macoupin Co, IL, on 16 Oct 1832. The price was $1.25 per acres, total price $50. On 18 Apr 1833, he sold, for $50, 80 acres (E half of SE quarter of Section 4, Township 10N, Range 6W, Meridian 3) acres (NE quarter of the NW quarter of Section 10, Township 10N Range 6W Meridian 3) to William E. STARR of Madison Co. On 16 Oct 1832, Peter AKES, Sen, paid $1.25 per acre for 40 acres of land in Macoupin County, Illinois, described as.9

Priscilla (--?--) was born on 5 Oct 1776 Germany.7 She died on 27 Mar 1810 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, at age 33.1

Susannah HARRIS was born circa 1778 Virginia.1 Conflicting evidence indicates she was born on 12 Oct 1793 in Virginia.7 She married Frederick PITZER on 14 Apr 1836 in Macoupin County, Illinois.6,7 She married Absalom (Absalem) HART, son of Heth HART and Elizabeth (--?--), on 17 Feb 1840 in Jefferson County, Iowa.6,7 She died on 19 Sep 1865 in Little Sioux, Harrison County, Iowa.1,7

the South East fractional quarter of fractional Section twenty six, in Township Thirty six North, of Range nine East, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Jackson, Missouri, containing one hundred acres and forty six hundredths of an acre.14

Henry Harrison3 AKES (Peter2AKERS (AKES), Mr1AKERS) was born on 24 Aug 1814 Rockcastle County, Kentucky.20,21 According to the 1870 census, he was born circa 1814 in Kentucky.22 He married Emily Marguite SEGO, daughter of Lemuel D. SEGO and Elizabeth BLAKELY, on 20 Oct 1841 in Daviess County, Missouri. (Dodd and Ellsberry read: Henry F. AKES and Emily SEGO; Ellsberry adds -by Benjamin Salmen Jr, JP.).23,24 Conflicting evidence indicates he and Emily Marguite SEGO were married on 21 Oct 1841 in Daviess County, Missouri.20 He died on 26 Oct 1897 in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa, at age 83.20,21 He is buried in Palestine Cemetery, Decatur County, Iowa. (The Cemetery Book reads, "Harvey H. AKES Aug 24, 1814 Oct 26, 1897").20,21

On 2 Oct 1854, Henry H. AKES, of Gentry County, Missouri, purchased land described as:

the North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section fifteen, in Township Sixty four, of Range Thirty, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Plattsburg, Missouri, containing forty acres.25 On 1 Jun 1859, Henry H. AKES, of Gentry County, Missouri, purchased land described as:

the North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section fifteen, in Township Sixty four, of Range Thirty, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Plattsburg no Boonville, Missouri, containing forty acres.26 The 1861 tax list for Gentry County, Missouri, lists Harrison AKES having personal property worth $55, owning 140 acres in Section 12, Township 64, Range 30. The land was valued at $340 and included 28 improved acres. He also paid a poll tax. Harrison also owned 20 acres in Section 12, Township 62, Range 30, valued at $40, containing timber and brush.27 His is listed as head of household on the 22 Jun 1870 census Miller Township, Gentry County, Missouri, as Henry H. AKES. The census listed him as age 56, farmer, owning real estate worth $670 and personal property worth $355, born in Kentucky. Enumerated with him were Emily AKES, Mary E. AKES, Susanna AKES, Emily AKES, and Henry H. AKES.22 His was enumerated with John J. FUNDERBURGH on the 1 Jun 1880 census Butler Township, Harrison County, Missouri, as Henry H. AKES. He was listed as age __, widowed, father-in-law, retired blacksmith. He was born in Kentucky. The birthplace of his parents was not recorded. him was listed in the household of John J. FUNDERBURGH.28

Emily Marguite SEGO was born on 7 Oct 1825 Kentucky.20 According to the 1870 census, she was born circa 1825 in Kentucky.22 Her was enumerated with Henry H. AKES on the 22 Jun 1870 census Miller Township, Gentry County, Missouri, as Emily AKES. She was listed as age 45, keeping house, born in Kentucky. her was listed in the household of Henry H. AKES.22 She died on 16 Dec 1877 in McFall, Gentry County, Missouri, at age 52.20

27. Harmon (Hermon) Jackson3 AKES (Peter2AKERS (AKES), Mr1AKERS) was born on 27 Aug 1816 Rockcastle County, Kentucky.2 He married Martha McKinney FROST, daughter of McCaslin FROST and Penina SMITH, on 14 Mar 1839 in Jefferson County, Iowa. (Dodd reads: Harmon I. AKES and Martha FROST.).29

Granville Smith3 AKES (Peter2AKERS (AKES), Mr1AKERS) was born on 9 Jun 1819 Rockcastle County, Kentucky.31,32,33,34 According to the 1870 census, he was born circa 1820 in Kentucky.35 According to the 1900 census, he was born in Jun 1819 in Kentucky.36 He married Mary W. "Polly" HART, daughter of Absalom (Absalem) HART and Deborah HODGSON (HODSON), on 3 Dec 1840 in Jefferson County, Iowa.31,2 Conflicting evidence indicates he and Mary W. "Polly" HART were married on 10 Dec 1840.32 He died on 19 Mar 1909 in SE of Albany, Gentry County, Missouri, at age 89.31,32,33,34 He is buried in Jones Chapel Cemetery, Butler Township (S of New Hampton), Harrison County, Missouri. He came to Missouri about 1864 and two years later he came to Gentry County, Missouri.37 He was a farmer in Athens, Gentry Co, MO, where in 1870, his real estate was valued at $5,000. He was a blacksmith in Albany, Gentry, MO. His is listed as head of household on the 9 Jun 1870 census Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri, as Granville AKES. The census listed him as age 50, farmer, owning real estate worth $5,000 and personal property worth $1,150, born in Kentucky. Enumerated with him were Mary AKES, Alson A. AKES, William H. AKES, Granville AKES, Mary A. AKES, Jane AKES, and Peter A. AKES.35 The 1877 Gentry County, Missouri, Atlas, listed G. S. AKES owning 40 acres in Section 1, Township 62, Range 30, and 200 acres in Section 12, Township 62, Range 30.38 His is listed as head of household on the 2 Jun 1880 census South half of Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri, as G. S. AKES. The census listed him as age 61, married, farmer. He was born in Kentucky, his father was born in Germany, and his mother was born in Virginia. Enumerated with him were Mary AKES, Granville S. AKES, Priscilla AKES, Jane AKES, Peter A. AKES, Wm SHELTON.39 The 1896 Gentry County, Missouri, Atlas, listed G. S. AKES owning 120 acres in Section 12, Township 62, Range 30.40 His is listed as head of household on the 1900 census Athens Township, Gentry County, Missouri, as Granvil S. AKES. The census soundex listed him as age 80, born in Jun 1819, in Kentucky. Enumerated with him were Mary AKES and Racheal D. AKES.36

Sarah Ann SHIVELY was born on 17 Mar 1835.47 Conflicting evidence indicates she was born on 9 Mar 1835 in Sciota County, Ohio.7 She died on 17 Jun 1890 in (prob) Decatur County, Iowa, at age 55.47 She is buried in Palestine Cemetery, Decatur Township, Decatur County, Iowa. (The Cemetery Book reads, "Sarah A. AKES, died Nov 4, 1890, aged 55y 3m").48

The eight known children of Stephen Rutherford3 AKES and Sarah Ann SHIVELY were as follows:

30. Priscilla3 AKES (Peter2AKERS (AKES), Mr1AKERS) was born on 11 Dec 1823 Daviess County, Kentucky.51,2 She married John CONYERS on 15 Mar 1839 in Henry County, Iowa. (Dodd reads Priscilla AKES and John CONYERS.).51,52,29 She died on 3 Oct 1910 in Moorhead, Monona County, Iowa, at age 86.20 She is buried in Preparation, Monona County, Iowa.

John and Priscilla joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) in the 1840's and moved to Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. They were among the first to join the Reorganized LDS Church. John was baptized and confirmed a member on 18 Apr 1861.20

John CONYERS was born on 25 Apr 1814 Hickman County, Tennessee.51 Conflicting evidence indicates he was born on 25 Apr 1815 in Hickman County, Tennessee.52 He died in Aug 1901 in Moorhead, Monona County, Iowa, at age 87.52,51 He is buried in Preparation, Monona County, Iowa.51

40. John Jeff4 AKES (William P.3, Peter2AKERS (AKES), Mr1AKERS) was born on 20 Feb 1814 Indiana.7 He married Mary (Minnie) HOWE (an indian).7 He married Martha (--?--).7 He died on 26 Jul 1864 in Fort Smith, Scott County, Arkansas, at age 50.12
