J: And then, I think I reviewed... uh... oh! I rem-... The Never-Ending Story. Do you remember that? With the big white dog?

L: Okay, the one I saw that you had reviewed was, oh! A Christmas Carol!

J: Yeah, oh, the Muppet Christmas Carol! Wasn't it?

L: No, no... it was George C. Scott's A Christmas Carol.

J:
Oh, George C. Scotts A Christmas Carol...

L:
Yeah.

J:
[gives a sarcastic, knowing glare]... yeah, yeah... I remember!

L: Yeah, you don't remember that one? 'Cause you were rather harsh.

J:
Was I?

L:
Yeah, a little harsh. And you were using big words, and I was like, "the kid's too smart, I can't use this..." 'Cause I wanted to see you with a big lollipop...

J: Oh no, I probably got my mom to write the scripts.

L: Are you critical of films today? Do you see films and critique them as well?

J: Yeah, I, I... I mean, I know what I like...

L: Yeah.

J: I know what I like.

L: Well, what don't you like? I'd much rather hear that... [light audience laughter].

J:
[pauses for a second to think]... no, no, no...

L:
Like, what's a crummy film?

J: What's a crummy film...

L: Anacondas? You seen that one?

J: Well, no, no... [realizes what Jay's just said] ... yeah! [laughs].

L: That's pretty crummy.

J: I was, uh...

L: [nudging Jude on the shoulder] Alien vs. Predatorcant get worse than that.

J: Really? [smiling]

L:
"No matter who wins, we lose!"...DUH! [Jude laughs] I mean, those kinds of movies...

J:
It's in the catch phrase, yeah...

L:
See, I like to watch actors. I like to watch people act. When it's just...

J: Yeah.

L: ...sort of monsters all the time, ehh... it's... might as well watch a cartoon.

J: You know, well, I... that's how I felt, and then, working on Sky Captain was a kind of marriage of both those things. Because I... I enjoy effects, but I've always enjoyed seeing films with good acting, good scripts, and good characters. 'Cause that's kind of... what, that's what makes a film have heart in the end, or a pulse at least.

L: Well, the thing I like about Sky Captain, your newest one, is... there's a lot of special effects, but it takes place... it's very Art Deco.

J: Yeah.

L:
And the Art Deco effects really look proper...

J: Yeah.

L:
...for the period. Well, tell people what the picture's about, so we get...

J: It's a good, old fashioned, action adventure, but it's set very much in the period that the story takes place in. In the 30s. It's, uh... it's about a guy who flies for a mercenary crack team of pilots who is called upon to save the world from killer robots. And... his sidekick is his... ex-girlfriend, Polly Perkins, who's a kind of wisecracking reporter.

L:
Yeah.

J:
And really, the threat of the film is obviously, they're trying to save the world. But at the heart of it is... will they or won't they get back together...

L: Right, right.

J: They spend the whole time bickering, and whining, and complaining to each other, and there's a lot of fun in that. But, but... Kerry Conran, who directed it, created the entire thing.

L: Right.
