The open and save dialogs are long due for an overhaul. They are the most widely used feature in OS X and any operating system for that matter. The current design of the open and save dialog boxes limits the users in several ways. First, the user is limited to 1 view. Next, in order to search for a file the user must leave the dialog along with the application and switch to the finder to search (not efficient). Last, few options are available that give the user information about the file such as the path, permissions etc...
