| Orchestra students and chaperones left on a long bus ride to Orlando, Florida on Monday morning March 26, for a fun filled adventure at Disney World. While the sights and activities were wonderful, the best part of the trip came on Friday March 30, when the students performed for three college judges at the ABC Theater in the MGM Park at Disney. The students performed Incantations by Richard Meyer, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen arranged by former student Loribeth Gregory, and Danza Da Ballo by Kirt N. Mosier. The orchestra was judged not only on their playing abilities, but on their stage presentation as well. The students really out did themselves; they really rose to the occasion. This all showed in their overall scores. Out of 100 points, their cumulative score was a 95%, which attained them a superior rating. The acccumulation of the week's activities was held at the Indiana Jones Theater in the MGM Park. All of the groups that performed over the three day festival gathered for the awards ceremony. The Joliet Township High School Orchestra received the highest score out of all nine orchestras participating in the competition. They were the only orchestra to receive a superior rating. They came home with their superior rating trophy, and the highest award for their category - the Golden Mickey Award. This was not only a fun trip for all, but very educational as well. The orchestra had a chance to listen to other orchestra from different states, which made them really appreciate what we have right here at home. Mrs. Breuning is extremely proud of the students' accomplishments. Congratulations to all those who went on the trip for such an outstanding performance. |
