| Click on the underlined words to see the picuters: My parents came out to visit and headed over to SF for a visit to Alcatraz, very cool. The tour is with head phones so you get a really good idea of what the place was like and don't have to worry about tour guides, you do it on your own. The first thing you see inside is "Broadway". The tour take you throughout the whole facility and you can stop and listen to some of the rangers talk about certain parts along the way. Here is a picture of the outdoor area used to exercise. The picture is from homeplate of a makeshift ball field. This is a shot of a typical cell, not too big. These are looking towards SF and back towards Alcatraz. The tour was $16, you just have to make reservations in advance since the tickets go quickly, usually a few days is best. The following day we headed to the coast, north of SF. We stopped at Muir Woods, a large groove of redwoods. Great place, but not as impressive as the trip I took up north. After that, we headed out to Reyes Point and the lighthouse out there. It's a very desolate location, but has a great view of the coast. The lighthouse is out on the point so it's not actually tall and skinny like most. You have to walk down over 300 steps to get to the place. You can see the incline to the left in this picture. After the visit, we did a hike along the coast and got some good pictures (pic 1, pic 2, pic 3). Moving on to Yosemite..... |
