| Click on the underlined words to see the picuters: DAY 1: I wanted to get on the road early to see as much as possible. Well, my last night in Seattle prevented me from doing that. I got up around 8:30, got my things together and took out the trash. Only problem is that the keys were left in the apartment and the door locks automatically. $76 for a locksmith. Once I got off I-5, was making good time till I got pulled over, doing 80 in a 70 zone. Once I took off, noticed that it was a completely unmarked cop car, $91. So far this trip is a little rough.Things smoothed out once I got to 101 (here's a map of the coast). The first stop was at Cannon Beach and saw the Haystack and Needles. The town was really great, would be a nice place to visit for a few. Next stop was Oswlad West. Didn't go to the beach, but got this shot from a view point. From there I made it to Newport, took a trip to the beach and made my way to Yachats, pronounced "Ya-Huts". There's a 2 mile road that takes you up 800'. This is the view: (road and coast, the ocean sun). About 5 miles further down the road is another view point of the Yachats Lighthouse. You can see this from 21 miles out and is one of the most powerful lighthouses on the Oregon coast. I would eventually stay at Bandon that night. DAY 2: The previous night I noticed that I was just across from the beach, so this morning I took the camera and went for a jog. The area is known as Face Rock and these are a few pictures (From end of the path, about 15 min. jog south, a panoramic view). Got on the road around 7:45. Didn't really stop anywhere on the coast, but did get this shot of the forrest and fog while driving. Once into California, I went through the Redwood National Forrest. This was the view entering the forrest.Took a quick shot of the car on the side. Stopped at a site where a tree called "Big Tree" grows. Here are a couple of pictures (Black and White, panoramic). I do agree, that there's a big tree.Took a couple more shots in the area (BW corckscrew, BW converging tops). Once out of the park, about an hour or so south is the Avenue of the Giants. Same basic drive as the park, but with less trees, but the ones they have are bigger. Came to the "Trees of Mystery". It's a privately owned area, so I didn't stop, but got this shot of Paul and Babe. Next up was the Eternal Tree House. It's a redwood with inside hollowed out to a 20' diameter room. Here's the sign inside. Next up is the Drive Thru tree. It cost a buck fifty, so I thought I do the drive. The last site was the Chimney Tree. Similar to the Eternal Tree House, only the hole goes all the way to the top and the room is half the size. It's really impressive that you can go into/drive thru these trees and they are still alive. That's about it, these are only a few of the shots, I guess you'll have to visit me to see the rest. Everyone take care. By the way, it sunny, warm and beautiful here. Just thought I would pass that along. |
