| A. K. Agikamik went into his dads office to do his homework on the computer. During winter break, the six-foot tall 20-year-old was home from college. He opened the white cedar closet to get out a floppy disk and began to work. Sitting at the desk, he was bored with his homework so he opened the newspaper. On the front page was the usual story about a suicide bomber in the Mideast, a common incident in our universe in 2002 AD. He turned past that to read the sports section when a shiny cylinder caught his eye. Instantly he remembered what it was, his dads translucent protection pills. His dad had told him never to touch them. What was so special about them? He had heard his parents talking about them and the Threeraelis and had associated the two together. He had always wondered what protection pills were and who the Threeraelis were. Big deal if they tell me that I shouldnt touch them. Agikamik said. There is something good about them that my parents are hiding from me. Ill take one and see what happens. He opened the box and swallowed a protection pill. It tasted fruity. Forty-five minutes later, the pills had had no apparent effect. After completing his work, Agikamik opened the door to leave and stepped out. To his great surprise, he found himself in the closet. He walked back into the office and saw that this was indeed the door out. He had, however, seen that through it was the closet which should have been on the other side of the room. The closet and the door to the hallway had switched places. Confused, A. K. walked up to the closet door and examined it. It looked white, smelled of cedar, and felt smooth. These were always the qualities of the closet door. Agikamik opened the closet door and found himself out of the room in the hallway. Suddenly, the door began to shake. A hologram appeared in the frame of the door. It showed a statement that said: YOU ARE IN GALAXY NG631415926. EXTERIOR CHANGES: ONE EAR ADDED. INTERIOR CHANGES: PATRIOTISM FOR THREERAEL INSERTED INTO PERSONALITY. MEMORY ADDED. YOU ARE A THREERAELI IN THREERAEL. YOU CAN READ AND SPEAK THREEBREW. TURN LEFT. WALK THROUGH THE GLASS WALL. WARNING: FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DEATH. Amazed with the doors new qualities, bizarre information, and strict injunction, Agikamik walked through the glass and turned left. The glass felt as though it was not there. He felt he had simply walked through open space yet he had seen and knew that there was a wall of glass. A. K. began to rise rapidly into a tunnel that he had never seen before. He soon however made a descent of the same speed onto a lawn. He stood up and saw he was outside of his house. There was a newspaper in his hand printed in Threebrew. Looking down at the paper, he discovered he could read it with no difficulty. The first article that caught his eye said, Tworab Suicide Ear-Cutter in Courtyard of King Threevid Hotel. The article went on to say that two hundred Threeraelis were killed as well as ten Tworabs including the Ear-Cutter. Agikamik could strangely understand the entire article and also knew that he was in a different universe. In this universe, he was a Threearaeli. The Threeraelis lived in a small country surrounded by Tworabs. The Tworabs controlled press stirred up a sudden surge of anger towards the Threeraelis.. Although the Tworabs and the Threeraelis had been living in peace, the Tworabs now wanted to kill their peaceful neighbors. A Threeraeli person had three ears. A Tworab had two ears. The rest of the world had one ear each. An Ear-Cutter went amidst a mob of people and lets loose a machine that chopped off one of everyones ears who was standing within a seventy-five foot radius of the Ear-Cutter. When a persons ear was amputated, they went into suspended animation for 10,000 years. The victims relatives usually chose to put the victim to a painless death. Agikamik had a solid sense of patriotism. After this horrible disaster in the newspaper, he felt an urge to join the Threeraeli army. He immediately applied for a post in the army. A. K. found that it would be difficult to get his job of choice, spy work, as only the best were given that job. Despite this throwback, he joined the army. Agikamik worked as a sentry for two months. He enjoyed the job at first, but after a while, he tired of his position. He considered returning to his native universe through the portal in his dads office. Instead, he decided to do some off-time work.. A. K. thought about the most fun types of work he could perform and decided to volunteer for an underground activists group. He was assigned an undercover mission to Tworaq. Agikamik entered Tworaq dressed as a Tworab from West Ear. He attended an anti-Threeraeli meeting in which the Tworabs frequently referred to a secret factory on Swamper Street was. A. K. learned that this manufacturing plant was important, so he went to Swamper Street and located the factory. It was a large building, one square mile in area, with a sign that said Donut Manufacturers in Tworabic. He knew that this sign was fake, put there to prevent suspicions. Agikamik walked inside, looking as if he belonged there and knew what he was doing. To enter into the main part of the building an entry card was required. A. K. pulled a card out of the back pocket of a passerby. He swiped the card and walked through security. He saw a map past security. It showed two sides of the building. Each had a different purpose. On the left side was the E. C. Manufacturing Facility. The right side contained the Press and Communication Headquarters. A description of each department was printed on a pamphlet next to the sign. A card was needed to remove the leaflets so Agikamik put his stolen card in and received a pamphlet. The left side was comprised of a giant Ear-Cutter producing plant. The Ear-Cutters were sent to the Press and Communication Headquarters. From there, they were distributed with instructions of where and when to use the Ear-Cutter to Tworabs who would set off the killing machines in a crowd. The right side had another major function. It was the cause of the Tworabs hatred for Threeralis and Threerael. There was no free press here. The Press and Communication Headquarters controlled everything that went in the newspapers, television, books, everywhere that the Tworabs could access. The head of the Press and Communication Headquarters must have decided to make the press say negative and false things about the Threeraelis. The Tworabs had believed these lies. They thought that their God wanted them to kill themselves and many innocent people. They thought this deed would ensure them a place in heaven. Armed guards looked suspiciously at Agikamiks hair and asked him, Why are you wearing your hair like that? Are you a Threeraeli hiding a third ear or something? Agikamik realized that the guard saw that he was wearing his hair over where a third ear would be on a Threeraeli. He quickly devised an unsuspicious response and laughed. Then he retorted, One of those dirty pigs? No. My hair is for a new research project in Press and Communication. In what? asked the guard. Press and Communication. The guard blew a whistle and pointed at Agikamik. Another guard ran to the wall and pressed a large red button. An important rule that A. K. was unaware of was that saying any phrase printed on the map was prohibited. If anyone was heard saying one of the phrases, he would surely not belong there because anyone hired to work at the factory was repeatedly reminded not to say any of the prohibited phrases. Anyone caught saying one of the phrases would be caught and questioned. Sometimes there was no questioning for they were caught dead or alive. Agikamik dodged into a door that said E. C. He emerged amongst a group of people. Those nearest him looked at him strangely because of his rushed entrance. He calmed himself down and walked in the crowd. A few seconds later a mass of guards trooped into the hallway. Luckily, A. K. was safely hidden in the crowd by that time. Down the hallway was a sign. On it was printed, Exact Middle of Building. Next to the sign was a door that read Mr. Twoafats Office. Agikamik knew that Twoafat was commander of this entire evil operation so he walked inside. A Tworab man was sitting at a desk screaming orders to all those around him. A. K. walked up to his desk. In Twoafats hand there was a container labeled Twoafats Protection Pills. There was another box on the desk labeled Omnipotent Ear-Cutters. Agikamik had heard about both of these, the pills rumored to prevent any Ear-Cutter attack. He also knew about the Omnipotent Ear-Cutter that could cut an ear of everyone standing within a square mile of the Ear-Cutter. While Agikamik was thinking of a method to obtain these possessions, Twoafat went into a rage of anger, shouted even louder, and threw his pills on the ground. Everyone around him bent down to help him pick them up. As Agikamik was picking the pills up, he swallowed one and pocketed a few. Then, in all the confusion, he lunged for Twoafats desk and set off the Omnipotent Ear-Cutter. Only two people had swallowed a Protection Pill, Twoafat and Agikamik. Now, only they were not in suspended animation. Twoafat, seeing no other fate for himself but death, took a dagger out of his desk and thrust it into his chest. Armed with the Omnipotent Ear-Cutter and protected by Twoafats protection pills, A. K. immediately called the Threeraeli Army. They soon arrived at the factory and planned out an effective method of becoming not just friends but allies with all the Tworabs. Over the next few years, A. K. Agikamik became a general and sometimes did spy work in the Threeraeli army, the job he had always desired. The Threeraelis dismantled the factory and manned the Press and Communication Headquarters. They changed the negative and false things that the Tworab media said about Threerael to positive and true statements. Soon, the Tworabs befriended the Threeraelis and their relationship dramatically improved so much that you would doubt they had ever been enemies. A.K. returned to his house and into his dads office. Agikamik swallowed a protection pill inside of his dads office, the way to travel in between the two universes. The doors switched places and he walked out the door that was the closet in the Universe of Many Ears and the door to the hallway in our universe. Agikamik realized that if such peace could be accomplished in the Many Ears Universe or Universe NG631415926, it could be accomplished in our universe as well. He returned to our universe to fix the same problem here. |
