i am student number 200178938.
when i took the up college admission test (upcat), my first choice for
a college degree was bs chemical engineering.
thanks god i did not pass it and ended up as a journalism major now.
i used to love chemistry during high school, that's why.
during my second year, i shifted from the college of arts and letters
to my present college, the college of mass communication.
it is home to two of the country's center of excellence in mass communication,
one of them is our very own journalism department.
i live in molave residence hall since my freshman year.
they don't allow first year students in our dorm,
but because i'm good (in pr?maybe.*wink*),
the dorm manager admitted me.
molave and i think majority of dorms here in up has poor facilities.
broad ass is the first and my only organization in up.
i never thought that their application would be that hard.
i had no idea when i joined.
for three weeks, i endured all the pain and hardships
from donning costumes around the college to...oops.
up aside from being the bastion of excellence is also known as
university of the philippines and university of pila and university of papel.
from registration up to the dropping of subjects,
students have to endure kilometric lines before
making any transactions in different offices.
bureaucracy is so prevalent.
also, many "outsiders" tagged us as university of patayan.
it is because many frat rumbles are being reported in media.
but in reality, isolated cases are being mentioned there.
and sometimes, non-up students are involved.
gone are the times when students like nio calinao and venturina
have to be killed because of fraternity combats.
the philippine collegian, fondly called kule by the students,
is the official student publication of the university.
i used to write for the kultura section of the newspaper
when i was a second year scholar.
i could attest to the hardship and perseverance of
every collegian writer before an issue is being published.
as of now, there are four major political groups in up.
these are: alyansa (the ruling party now in the student council), stand-up, samasa and convergence.
next semester would be my last sem in up.
and i swear that every bit of my life in up will be treasured and missed.
