8.26.03

I was gonna type this update with my right big toe, but I want to sleep soon. School starts tomorrow. My 12th and final day of summer will be spent training at a video store (a new trend, according to andrea). I'd also like to get a haircut. How to go about this was a big dilemma for a while. See, I've had my hair cut by Terry for as long as I can remember, but one day he wasn't there. He wasn't there, and I needed a cut, and I needed it bad. So Rose cut it instead. Thing is, Rose did a good job. Heck, let's be honest, she did a better job, better than Terry has in a long time, and that puts me in a bit of a pickle. Do I abandon Terry for Rose (whose chair is directly across) in a brazen and selfish move that would surely tear the barber shop apart as my patronage was vied for by two styling heavyweights, or settle for tradition, mediocrity, the easy way out? Well duh, easy way out. Besides, Terry doesn't talk; he leaves me verbally alone while he hacks away at my head. Rose subjected me to stories of fights with teachers and flipping fat kids.
One last thing before I sleep: I've changed the Word over there on the right. Read carefully, please. Especially you Laurie, seriously. Literally.

8.16.03

Bonnie updated at my prompting, so I suppose it's only fair that I update as well.
Here's a tip: If you think mold is fascinating and cool, wait a week to do dishes!
Summer school is now over. I went to the first critical thinking class, and the last critical thinking class, and none in between, so I'm waiting anxiously to see what grade I "earned." I managed an A in creative writing, the class I was two steps away from dropping after the first day. I wanted to leave not because it would be hard, but because I thought it would be annoying. And it often was. But it was worth it, let me tell you. Made some new friends - well, new acquaintances...okay, new people to avoid when I see them on campus, but hey, that's something!
Classes coming up in...11 days or so. Bio, sign language, and myths of the world, all with Andrea (pray for her), and American Indian history all by my lonesome. I'm still new at this "caring about/doing well in school" stuff, so we'll see how it goes. Baby steps, you know? I dunno if I'll ever catch up to you class of '01 folks, unless you all take a semester off just for me. Think about it, that's all I'm asking. Take care, adios!

8.5.03

My last update was before a creative writing assignment, this one is after. I wonder if that means anything.
Just two things today. One, isn't it amazing how much can ride on a printer working or not working? Yes, it is. Two, please please please don't hold it against me if ever I forget your birthday or favorite color or preferred pronunciation of your name. My memory really is just that bad, whether what I'm forgetting is important or not. For instance, today I looked out the living room window and saw a very familiar sight. My car, with an envelope stuffed under the windshield wiper. You see, my car was parked in the same place on the same day at the same time, resulting in the same $35 ticket I got the first time I forgot to move my car for street cleaning. But you know, the paper they print the tickets on is pretty cool, all smooth and stuff.
As I wrote that I remembered more than two things, but then I forgot them, but now I've remembered that I need to go get some playing cards from storage in Pacifica so Nathan can teach me how to play poker (for real) before class later today. So I just told you that. Have a good day/week/month, see ya when I see ya.

Just saw a commercial for jeans in which a woman on a horse speeds head-on towards a train and jumps over it. A disclaimer at the end reads "simulated stunt - do not attempt." That's all, good night.

When boiling water, be sure to turn on some sort of heat source. Otherwise not much will happen.
Also, according to this Disney Channel movie I'm watching, if you're a guy that's good at baseball but what you really love to do is cook, everyone will make fun of you. And there will be a lot of food fights set to upbeat music. To cope, you should first quit baseball, then go off on your home ec teacher and quit home ec. Then return to baseball and get your team into the playoffs. Okay, now it's a commercial, and I'm trying to cook dinner so you get to imaginate the rest of the movie.
I'm back with another quick tip. When boiling water, after you've remembered to turn on some sort of heat source, make sure your roommate doesn't accidentally turn it off...and don't listen to him talk about how he bent his fingernail back trying to scrape something gross off the counter under the can opener...and avert your eyes when he starts to change in the hallway without warning.

7.16.03

Yesterday I started two new classes, Critical Thinking and Creative Writing.
When I got on the elevator there was a older gentleman already there, and I didn't know what floor I wanted since I didn't know where the room for Critical Thinking was. "I don't know where I'm going," I told him. "," he said. I got off on his floor, the third, and wandered for a while until a nice lady playing solitaire told me the class was on the first floor. I headed down and waited as students trickled in. Finally the professor walked in, and lo and behold it was Elevator Gentleman. I felt somewhat embarrassed, but that was alleviated later when he asked and answered the following question: "How do you jump in water without getting wet? There are two ways. The first is to already be wet, so you can't get wet. The second is to develop an anti-water death ray and put it around you like a pokemon."
Zach warned me to avoid this professor, but look at what I'd be missing =P
After that guy talked for a few hours, I went to the room where I'd be Creatively Writing. When I sat down I looked at the clock and saw that it was 4:25. "Man, a whole hour and a half 'til class starts," I thought. Then I realized the clock was broken and it was really 2 something. Fortunately somebody else came an hour later, and we chatted for a while. I went to get food and when I came back, she was watching Oprah. Some kid ate a bunch of vitamins and got iron poisoning (he thought they were candy), but his mother got him to the hospital in time so he lived. He was present in the studio audience so of course everyone clapped for him. "Good job kid, way to almost kill yourself! We're so glad you're alive so you can pee in the gene pool."
Hours later, when the professor walked in and said "let's put our desks in a big circle,' I knew there'd be trouble. Sure enough, we had to go around the tumor-ridden oval we'd created with our tiny desks and say our names and our favorite place and a sensory perception we associated with it. Her example was her grandmother's kitchen and the feel of sugar under her feet. Sorry, but that's pretty gross, and she should've been cleaning up for her grandma instead of walking around on sugar and tracking it through the house. By break I was ready to drop this class, but ultimately I decided to keep it. I'll get to read interesting things, we'll only meet 9 more times, and I need the units.
We read this short story called "How to Become a Writer" by Lorrie Moore. It's interesting. I was going to put some of it in my profile, but it was too long, so I'll put it here instead.
"Excuse me, isn't this Birdwatching One-oh-one?" The class stops and turns to look at you. They seem to all have one face giant and blank as a vandalized clock. Someone with a beard booms out, "No, this is Creative Writing." Say: "Oh right," as if perhaps you knew all along. Look down at your schedule. Wonder how the hell you ended up here. The computer, apparently, has made an error. You start to get up to leave and then don't. The lines at the registrar this week are huge. Perhaps you should stick with this mistake. Perhaps your creative writing isn't all that bad. Perhaps it is fate. Perhaps this is what your dad meant when he said, "It's the age of computers, Francie, it's the age of computers."

7.14.03

It's Monday and I've just returned from my Spanish final, officially ending my first summer session. It was simultaneously a long five weeks and a blur. I learned a lot, but I wonder how long I'll remember it? Whether or not I retain this information, I got at least B's in both classes, so I've accomplished my first goal. My next endeavor will be to tackle something I call the Punch Drunk Love Affair (just made that up, if you were me you'd think it was pretty clever). I have an inordinate amount of resentment (resentment is the perfect word for this, as defined on the right side of this page) for an event from last year, so it's time to resolve that. As I figure that out, the second summer session will begin and I'll again work to earn high marks. But before I move on, let me recap the past cinco semanas:
Spanish was a mixture of crazy old professor moments and students accidentally saying things like "I washed my face with soup," "when we're very cold, we get dressed" and "I'm bringing my boyfriend and his husband"). The girl I sat next to turned out to be a woman, and here's a tip: If someone tells you what year they graduated from high school and you realize that you were only two years old then, don't mention that to them. Some people are sensitive about age I guess. Personally, I predict I will forget how old I am after year twenty-two.
International Relations was a lot of information conveyed very quickly, with brief pauses for annoying students to proudly display their extensive knowledge on an obscure subject. But it was interesting. I learned that people are worth more when sold in pieces than as a whole, nation states often act very much like pouty children, and a third of of the world's population live on less than three dollars a day.
Sam, excellent BBQ! That's all I'll say or I'll start to remember that I'm hungry. Speaking of food, Rich told me there's a nutritionist on campus that can help people with their diets and even teach them how to shop for food. Sounds perfect! It's a free thing, but if you cancel an appointment they charge you twenty bucks. Kinda weird. Anyway, I definitely look forward to getting that straightened out; I dunno how much more defrosting/refreezing that poor ground beef can take.
I'll tell you what: I'll stop typing and you stop reading, deal? Deal. Update:
I almost forgot: Hey Chris! Hope you and Susan enjoyed your visit, come back soon =)
Oh and it turns out the Pete Yorn song I have is "Lose You" from the Orange County soundtrack. I haven't actually listened to the song all the way through, or even seen the movie.
I'd love to stay and chat, but I made this deal about not typing any more today, so I'll catch you later.

You know how music can fit your mood? I was looking for songs to match my frustration, and I ended up listening to that "hit me baby one more time" song by britney spears, at least four times. Odd, eh? To all those writing childrens' books, your assignment is a bare-bones outline, including an estimate of how many pages and what you will do about illustrations. It's due...one week after the 5th of July.

"Insanity runs in my family...it practically gallops."
-Mortimer Brewster, Arsenic and Old Lace
Today I suppose I'm taking a trip down memory lane by watching some VHS tapes. Remember those? They were replaced by today's DVDs, just like CDs replaced 8 tracks, and the AeroBed replaced those bulky guest beds (Aren't those a hassle? Visit http://www.thinkaero.com/ today and check out the new Raised AeroBed, "the perfect extra bed for summer guests who prefer to sleep up off the floor."). Anyway, I just watched the movie quoted above, and now I'm sitting through previews preceding Rushmore. Woah, what is this movie? Sean Connery, Jon Stewart, Gillian Anderson, and Angelina Jolie...weird. Even weirder: just now as I looked up Angelina's name to see if I spelled it right, I came across this movie. A must-see if ever there was one. Notice how all of the cast but Robert De Niro is credited as (voice). Does that mean it's gonna be a Roger Rabbit kind of thing? Oops, Rushmore is starting, name ten famous rabbits or bunnies while I'm gone.

Today I move a full 25 minutes away to San Francisco, land of a thousand suns. What? I dunno. I don't know yet if the internet will work for me there, so I'll probably either be back on tonight or gone for a while. Oh man, I have full reception at the new place, that's gonna rock. No more saying "Hello?" half a dozen times just to have my signal fade. When you don't have caller ID and only get two calls a month, that's a real bummer.

I'd like to see a professional athlete who just lost the Superbowl thank God. They're always doing it after they win, or praying before the game, but when's the last time you heard someone thank God for their loss? It's not like he's only around when you're winning (I don't do the capital H in he; it still seems grammatically weird to me). I'd also like to see their salaries reduced by, oh, say 90%? They're playing a game! I mean, you can watch A League of Their Own or Remember the Titans or Babe (the one about Babe Ruth, not the one about a delusional pig) and pump a lot of extra meaning into sports. But in the end it's just a game. The same thing works with kitchen appliances (Brave Little Toaster) and hideous half-human, half-fish sea beasts (The Little Mermaid). So uh, I should stop now, and please don't tell any professional athletes what I've said here today. Thanks!

6.5.03

Time just flew by. Summer school starts in four days, that's 4 days. I can't believe it. I looked up endeavor to see if I spelled it right, and now it's the current word. I like it, it's a good word. I think the key words in those definitions are "effort," "attempt," and "work." Now, I'm no stranger to these words. We've been properly introduced, even hung out a couple times. But if I'm going to reach any goals (in this case, reasonable academic success), I'll have to...uh...I had a word or phrase, but I lost it. Point is, I've set a general goal and I'll need to make an effort to attain it. Some think I can do it, and will. Some think I can't, or once again will not. What do I think? Right now it seems like it could go either way. I'll update you next week. But thanks to those who think I can, I think you're right.

Hey, remember Frances Chapman from Oceana? She's doing the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk (for her mom). It cost her $85 bucks just to register, crazy. Well, I'm gonna head to her donation page and add to her total now. Hope you reach your goal Frances! =)

Pepsi has a sweepstakes in which one person will win one million dollars, and one person may win one billion dollars.
"The Policy shall provide for payment of the One Billion Dollar Prize over 40 years pursuant to the following payment schedule: $5 million per year for each of years 1 through 20; $10 million per year for each of years 21 through 39 and a lump sum payment of $710 million in year 40 (the "40-Year Payment Schedule"). The Policy shall also provide that the One Billion Dollar Prize winner, if any, may instead elect to receive a one- time payment of $250,000,000"
I bet Pepsi figures they'll either rule the world or be out of business by 2043. That or the winner will mysteriously disappear in the 39th year. I would just take the 250 million. I don't see why you wouldn't, that's so much more money than any one person would ever need. I mean, if you spent 500 dollars on food/fun every day, and 5,000 a month for rent/utilities/etc, that's still less than half a million a year. Oh, and if you win, you must

"grant to Sponsor and its Administrators the unconditional and irrevocable right, without any further compensation, consideration, notice, review or consent, to use exhibit and publish, in any medium now known or hereinafter known at any time throughout the world, the following: (a) their name, address, image, likeness, voice, biographical information and statement"

Scary. Read your Disneyland ticket too, they have similarly freaky rights as soon as you walk into their park. Anyway, Finding Forrester is on A&E now, so I'm gonna watch it now. If nothing else, it's a good link in that 6 degrees/Kevin Bacon game. (Busta and Connery in the same movie? That opens up so many doors.) I hope that made sense to someone out there, beneath the pale moonlight. Good night.

On the back of my "Right Guard Xtreme sport Invisible Solid Anti-Perspirant Deodorant (Fresh Blast)" it says it's "Developed specifically for active people." Oops. I should've picked up the "Right Guard Xtreme sleep Invisible Solid Anti-Perspirant Deodorant (Fresh Blast)," which is of course developed specifically for people who wake up in the afternoon on a regular basis. In my defense, I've been keeping busy lately, and I even woke up before noon today. That's not much of a defense. What am I defending? Can I go now? Thanks.

Hello!
Remind me to update more.

Apparently nobody believed that typing "the wire - omar and brandon - brandon's death" in google would bring up this site. Cause a bunch of people tried it, and now that's the number one phrase bringing folks here =P Maybe I should have bumper stickers printed. That's one of those maybes that you don't mean, like maybe I'll be able to incorporate "She's hot, he's holy, are the stars of Bruce Almighty a match made in heaven?" into this update. (Sorry Drew, that was the best I could do. Actually, not the best, but hey look, it's in here! Cool!)

Let me see if there are any random text things on my computer I can throw on here before I wander off.

Nope. But here's that picture of Brandon with a fro. Crunchitize me captain!

yeah, i could e mail that to you i think, why?

the latest is

I've been waiting for days now to say something here, but I can't bring myself to do it! So instead, I implore you to ask Jocelyn about her new "earrings." If you don't know Jocelyn, e-mail me and I'll send you her address, phone number, and a handy schedule of her daily routine.

If you see me online during the day, before 4:45 eastern time, Mon-Fri, please remind me to call the college board and have them report my AP scores. I've been meaning to do so for a couple years now. Thank you for helping me help me.

~~~~~~
4.22.03
What's up? It's been a while. Last couple of days have been packed with visiting relatives, but before that I just didn't feel like updating. I did, however, want to share a realization I had. All college and university classes are the same. The quality of a class really depends on the teacher, and the bigger/better schools attract better teachers, I suppose. But whether you're at a community college, state, or UC, there will be mindless repetition, busy work, people in class goofing off, asking stupid questions, and packing up ten minutes before class is over so that almost everything the professor is trying to cram in the last few minutes is lost. And so much more. But that sentence was run-on-ny enough. And you shouldn't start sentences with "And" or "But." By the way, my evidence for this claim is sitting in on a bunch of courses at sate level, and one each at community college and UC levels. So it's not extensive. But whatever, they're all the same.
Ye-ah. At the beginning of this, I asked you what's up, but you still haven't answered. It's like you think I don't really want to know. Well I do, so e-mail me. Oh come on, it'll take five minutes to give me a quick update.
Uh, what else? Asking the few left on aim for topics....
Allen: ummmmmmmmm
Thanks Allen.
Laura: regret
It sucks, don't waste your time with it. Lots of cliches for that, like "what's done is done."
Belinda: uhm tacos?
Tacos are grand! When eating with others, or just feeling extra lazy, I prefer the soft kind to crunchy, but all are good!
Steve: =0) Dolphin/human love
Dolphins love humans, as evidenced by Flipper. Human beings don't love dolphins, as evidenced by careless fishing practices. Enough said I think.
Allen (again): what about your journey in finding a major? =P
Thanks Allen!
Though I wouldn't call it a journey, there was some movement in the major area. I stumbled upon Language Studies, and it seems perfect for me! Unfortunately, it's a concentration in the all-encompassing English major. Let me list a few of the core classes for that major at sfsu: One upper division course in Shakespeare; Age of Victorian; Age of American Renaissance. Bleh! Of course I'll have to investigate further before I make that Bleh! official and reject the major for sure. I'll keep you updated, or not, who cares? It's just a major, seriously.
Okay, that's quite enough, I'll let you get to writing me that e-mail. Y'all keep it easy.
4.14.03
Well hello. Apparently people using Google and other search engines have been coming here in search of things such as "perfect strangers sheep herder pictures" and "zoolander animated gifs." Alas, I did not have these things for wayward travelers. Did not, that is, until now. This page will be dedicated to those lost souls who simply want a color-changing ben stiller or a picture of their favorite sheep herder. I'll add to it as more people stumble here accidentally.
Also, I'm changing the Movies to See section (not to be confused with those movie scene pictures) to an Anime I've Seen section. This'll help me keep track of what I've seen and what I think, and will help you drift to sleep quickly.
Life is sometimes like this orange I just ate. Hard to peel, and once it was finally edible, it was a pretty lame excuse for an orange. In a word, disappointing. Like this cherry blossom thang. Wait, no. I guess it's a good thing almost nobody wanted to go, since it's raining cats and dogs and water. So really the only bad news as of late is that orange I just ate. Although...even that orange was better than no orange at all. So everything's cool! Have a good day y'alls. Emily, once a person and now a bookmark, used to say y'alls, I think.
So last night I was playing with fire, and I got burned! Who could possibly have predicted?
I finished a 10x10 from in n out a few minutes ago. No more, ever again. Yuck, bleh, spam.
Kinda weird when Annie's "You're Never fully Dressed Without a Smile" is followed by 2Pac's "California Love." But let's close today with an inspirational quote from Allen that I found on my computer titled "I feel you." Which Allen? That should be immediately obvious:
ain't no nigga perfect, we can only try and be perfect and leave the rest to home skillet upstairs, u feel me
4.8.03
I didn't realize as many people come here as often as they do. I was thinking maybe one person every few days, but it's a little bit more than that. I guess most of it is bored folks clicking on every link in every profile, but I'll take what I can get. Anyway, if you recall my pre-smiley face buddy icons fondly, I have an image that will make you smile. If those icons scared you, do not click here. Or do, you big baby.
All you people can't you see can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down you can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
I have seven Backstreet Boys songs. The Boys' grammar, messages, and everything about them and their songs irritate me. But dammit, they sound good. So screw it. Ooh, The Call, this is a good one.
Jocelyn! has lent me a ton of anime. That's right, two thousand pounds of anime. I have lately become concerned about anime obsession and sometimes just hearing talk of it makes me feel sick to my stomach. Now I have the opportunity (as well as gross amounts of free time) to dive right in and investigate this phenomenon firsthand. Anime, your judgement day is fast approaching...
I'll look in my text clips for a long-forgotten snippet of conversation...
Here's something Laura told me once, guess I kept it cause I thought it was cool:
oh today was so weird on the bus!
the 52 bus used to have mcateer kids
really rowdy
swearing
the whole bit
but mcateer changed to school of the arts
and today was the first day taking the bus since the change
and there were kids
talking about extra credit
and holding instruments
it was quite refreshing
That's so neat...
And here's Erika trying to rationalize my being a jerk.
You aren't a jerk Joe.
You just have a different way of expressing your happiness to me.
Thanks, I think. One more random AIM thing I decided to keep, then I'm starting on that stack of anime. This came from Omar after I gave him all the powdered drinks I had since I knew I was too lazy to make them for myself.
oh out across the sacred glens,
lives ready Joe Slovak-io!
his bags of tea and chocolate,
keep hobbittses so happio!
O_o
3.27.03
After I finish writing this, I'll add movie scenes until I get tired of clicking and waiting.
So, war. I'll try to put it as simply as I can.
War is tragical.
Because we don't live in a perfect world, where everyone with power respects human life, I think war is sometimes necessary.
I don't know if this war could have been ultimately avoided, but I believe this is one of the worst ways it could have come about.
Nobody knows everything, and hardly anyone knows very much at all. "In political discussion heat is in inverse proportion to knowledge." In other words, the less people know what they're saying, the louder they tend to say it.
The protests in S.F. are ridiculous. Your voice, even combined with a million others, means nothing unless you are changing peoples' minds. You're not doing that when you prevent a Jetta on Market Street from getting to Starbucks. Of course it's important we have the right to assemble peacefully, but if you feel like spending a Saturday holding a sign is really Making A Difference, you're not living in the same world as I am. If you want things to be different you have to win people to your side, not march around self-importantly with people that already agree with you.
That's quite enough of that! Back to life.
Hi! It's been a while, so I'll just start off slow and change the Word on the right. I heard it in a song and laughed at how stupid it was and how stupid the boy band that used it was, since it couldn't possibly be an actual word. It is, of course, an actual word. At least I only laughed in my head.
Hey, there's a bug on my wall. It's quite similar to the one pictured to the right. I've learned my lesson though, and I'm not going to kill it. I also wouldn't say I'm going to "let" it live, because it doesn't need my permission to live. It just needs me to respect life enough not to kill it. Hey...where'd it go? o_o
Special Thanks today to Mike V, Jen, Laurie, Andrea, and All the Rest for making it absolutely clear who they Do and Do Not want hanging out with Their Group! Got the message Loud and Clear folks, Excellent work!
This morning I assembled (fit together the parts or pieces of) a dresser from Denmark. It's the first time in a twentieth of a century that I'll have my clothes organized and in drawers. If you're as excited as I am, you probably haven't bothered to finish reading this sentence.
Perfect Strangers again, another Christmas episode. This one had a Scrooge/Grinch kind of storyline, with the whole cast breaking into song at the end of the episode as the previously evil Mr Gorply learns what it is to feel the spirit of Christmas. I'm so glad this kind of thing doesn't happen in real life! Primarily because I don't know all the words to Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
On this, the final day of February, Laurie drew us a chart! There's more to it than that of course, and thankfully she explains so I don't have to.
Also, to prove I didn't entirely forget about the movie scenes, here are three more, all anime!
Quote from Brenna. Not just from Brenna, but from Brenna. Neat huh?
I heard today's word on Three's Company. Educational television is grand.
Sara (no H) did me the favor of writing her own intro to an article she came across. She spelled my name wrong but I won't hold it against her. Not me, no sir. Here is Sarah's contribution.
Thank you Laura for suggesting today's Word!
Laura also suggested the following quote, but it is far too cheesy.
"when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace"
I'm looking for a job, really. Right after I finish going through my music. I've gotten rid of a couple thousand songs so far, but a mother's work is never done. I'm guessing you all have missed Nick at Nite's recent 3:30-in-the-morning airings of Perfect Strangers (the 80's sitcom starring Balki and Cousin Larry). So I'll fill you in on a couple important lessons. On yesterday's Christmas episode, we learned the same thing we learn from every Christmas episode of every sitcom: Mistletoe only works on TV, and we should be thankful for that. This morning's lesson was just as profound. You see, Balki finds a dog (or carves it from clay and brings it to life with strange incantations; I didn't see the beginning), but you can't have a dog in an apartment building! Oh Balki, you poor naive sheep-herder, you couldn't have known! After about 20 minutes of hilarity and commercial breaks, they finally have to give the dog up. This is when we learn that if you love something, you should let it go. But first teach it tricks and let it lick your face.
Doop dee doo. Oh, you're still here? Me too =/ It's 6 in the morning. I should be asleep. Even the folks at Snoop's party are calling it a night. I know! I'll leave the computer, eat some pudding, drink some water, and come back, but for you it will all happen instantaneously! Woah! I'm done! Crazy quick huh. If supervillians read web pages, I'd be the FLASH! Hey, people, where are your words? Your stories, your advice, your reviews, even your opinion would be okay. Maybe it's the lack of movie scenes? Yeah I'll bet =P
Well here are two more. No excuses now, send me your stuff!
If Brandon's opinions were apples, Rich's would be oranges. Yet there are some striking similarities to be found, if you look hard enough. But looking hard isn't necessary to just read what Rich has to say about America; simply click here.
2.17.03
Brandon has thrown his hat in the ring, using an episode of the Twilight Zone (which he summarizes for us) as an extended metaphor for the current state of our society. He draws a lot of parallels, alternately criticizing and justifying America's actions. At any rate, I'm at least reasonably confident that nowhere else will you find George W Bush called a "business Martian." Read on.
I'm back in Pacifica. Today while showering, the water temperature dropped suddenly, reminding me of the dorms. Up goes another movie scene. Rich is again graciously hosting a picture. This one was taken by Dexter (formerly Paul) of his brother Linus (formerly Andrew) standing on Kauai's Polihale Beach at sunset. Or sunrise. Either way, it is a beautiful picture.
Update:
counterpoke: sunset
Alright, sunset.
2.14.03
Happy Valentines Day, the most widely resented holiday in America! It always seems like the horror stories associated with this day far outnumber the...horrorless...stories... I can't say I have any bad V Day memories. Besides, any discomfort I have with all the red and pink and hearts and cutesy crap is more than made up for by the abundance of free sugar. In honor of this special day (not really), Doug has decided to speak to the pyro in all of us with tips on tweaking lighters. I try to keep things simple here, so I linked to it in the "articles" section. At first I was going to try to come up with a clever intro, like "Doug gets fired up about Valentine's Day!" (but cleverer). But instead I just made the background red and called it a day. I'm adding another movie scene too, the only one that screams "Love!" and doesn't apologize for hurting your ears. The artist decided to write the name of the movie in bold capital letters across the top, but I edited that out so as not to ruin the magic, the mystery, the excitement. Oh my.
Ken was studying for public admnistration when he came across a brief, tongue-in-cheek passage that tells us why we should thank smokers. Crazy huh? He typed it up for us, so here it is.
2.13.03
I heard today's quote while watching Home Improvement. Tim Allen's show, remember? I hadn't seen it in many years. Anyways, Wilson said it, the advice-giving neighbor whose mouth/chin you never saw. When I heard those words I was all like "that makes sense" and then I was all like "I'll look that up" and then Google was all like "here are some sites!" and I was all like "cool!" because I'd arrived at this huge site about lying. It's really neat, and it's just a click away. It's very straightforward, well structured, and really interesting. There is a Christian element to it, but not in a scary, point at you and tell you you're going to hell kind of way. Instead, it just makes it that much more interesting and informative. Speaking of lying, one of the biggest liars I know is gonna start some sort of journal on here, so keep an eye out for that. And the first of the Movie Scene Pictures is up. Okay Doug's here, time to play some Mean Bean Machine.
Omar presents: his dream.
2.13.03
I've decided to give the communal site thing a shot, let's see what happens. Many have expressed various levels of interest, but our own Billy is the first to step up, with this...uh...let's call it "unique," animated gif, temporarily placed in the high profile pictures section. Rock on Billy, you truly are the man, like Ira in Suicide Kings. Everyone else, don't be jealous, for you too can contribute! =D
P.S. Checking out of the dorms on Saturday at 10 am. I should start cleaning out my half of the room now, which means I'll actually start sometime Friday night.
What Rich says, I do, and Rich said "add more stuff to your website." Okay Rich, you got it. I saw Bring It On today so look down and to the right to find out what I thought of it. If that's not interesting enough for you, your majesty, then here's a picture Chris Capito sent me of himself with his Iron Chef chums! I suppose they all met through the CIA. Rich seems to be hosting pictures for me, thanks Rich. Here comes the seventh and final "Rich" in this update: Rich.
2.11.03
As I may have told you, I wanted my next site to be a sort of communal thing where everybody contributed stuff. Educational articles, editorials, reviews, art, pictures, music, and so on. The main failing of that plan is that it takes effort on everyone's part, and if there's one thing people hate, it's effort. But then I thought to myself, "Who needs cooperation when you've got Copy and Paste?" So I'll just be a parasite, moving from place to place until I get kicked out (or bored with my surroundings). I'll be Allen today. Maybe I'll be you next.
2.11.03
The whole top banner thing doesn't really work on my computer, so it's gone. I really like the date format here. For some reason periods seem nicer than slashes. Plus it's easier for people with retainers to say "period." The colors are pretty cool too. Overall, a nice place. Might stay here for a while... =)
Life is only depressing when you cease to treasure what you already possess.
-Brenna Fong
endeavor
n. A conscientious or concerted effort toward an end; an earnest attempt
v. To work with a set or specified goal or purpose.
literally
1 : in a literal sense or manner : ACTUALLY (she literally fainted from the effort)
2 : in effect : VIRTUALLY (literally in shock; literally died)
Usage: Since some people take sense 2 to be the opposite of sense 1, it has been frequently criticized as a misuse. Instead, the use is pure hyperbole intended to gain emphasis, but it often appears in contexts where no additional emphasis is necessary.
Anime I've Seen
  1. Mononoke Hime
    According to the DVD it's the "Star Wars of Anime" or something equally stupid. There's not a single spaceship, comic relief robot, or Harrison Ford in this movie. But it's still good.
  2. Iria: Zeiram the Animation
    Bounty hunters are cool, and so are creative and highly specific weapons. Like an elevator cable cutter with time-delay. I've kicked myself so many times for leaving home without one of those.
  3. Ah My Goddess (series)
    Keiichi dials a wrong number and he gets a goddess by his side for life. When people in real life dial a wrong number, they invariably reach my house while I'm sleeping. Anyway, it's an engaging story with nice artwork.
  4. Ah My Goddess (movie)
    The "bad guy" in this movie is trying to save the inhabitants of Earth from thousands of years of pain and suffering, so our heroes nobly try to stop him. Thanks heroes, thanks a lot. There's also this cool two-person motorcycle thing but I can't explain it, so I won't even mention it.
  5. Ghost in the Shell (movie)
    Most of this movie flew over my head without even dropping a hint. Interesting to watch though =P
  6. Ghost in the Shell (4 episodes of the series)
    Exploits of a team of...brain-linked? do-gooders; it's cool to watch them work together. This series puts the "cool" back in "synergy!" I like the opening theme too, but is some of it in Russian? Or is that just the subtitler fooling around? Or what??
  7. Fruits Basket
    Workin on it, and I like the opening song for this too.
