We have changing thoughts and emotions. They change from happy to unhappy, and unhappy to happy.

So a path to happiness would be to make all thoughts and feelings happy all of the time?

You'd think so wouldn't you?

We can change our thoughts.

We can watch our thoughts.

Some thoughts are thoughts we choose to think, like going to a restaurant and then being given the menu and choosing to think of the options and place an order.



Other thoughts come and we didn't choose them, they arrive and disperse by their own energy. Like sitting at a beach and looking at the sea, and even though we don't consciously choose to think, our thoughts still come and go all unrelated and unconnected and random, while the waves lap up the beach, recede again to the sea. The tide is ever coming or going.

Where in the world is a sea with no waves?

When in the mind is a time with no movement?

Where in the world is an ocean without tides?

When in our lives do we ever stop feeling?

We can direct our thoughts but our minds keep moving, the undirected and unrequested never cease arriving. To begin to be free, to later change - we have to know our ocean now.

Jump in the water, splash around drowning at the mercy of the waves and the tides and the winds.

Climb into a boat. Outside of the water, study it, the waves and the tides and the wind.

And when you understand,

raise the sail and chart your course.
