Title: Chicken Wing
Author: Christine Young-Robinson
Rate: 9 ********* best
Category: Children’s Book
Type: Fiction

No Profanity

I liked the book Chicken Wing because it was about a girl named Mykala and her grandma. She lived in Columbia, South Carolina. Her grandma nicked named her Chicken Wing because she liked chicken wings so much. Her grandma was the one who made the wings for her and she enjoyed cooking them for her.

She invited her two friends to come over to eat some chicken wings with her and they ate them very fast. She liked to hear her grandma call, “Chicken Wing, Chicken Wing come on in here Chicken Wing.” Over the next few weeks her grandma made her healthy foods that she also enjoyed.

She thought she was her grandma’s little queen because grandma always made sure that she has her yummy fried Chicken Wings.

This book is funny and cute. Not only do us kids enjoy reading it but parents will too. The pictures are pretty real. We were glad to get a glimpse of Mykala’s face near the end.

We also like the way the author and illustrator left room for the reader to draw two pictures in the frames. The questions at the end of the book are very helpful so that you and friends can discuss the book together. We look forward to reading more from this author.

Title: Isra the butterfly
Author: Christine Young-Robinson
Rate: 9 ********* best
Category: Children’s Book
Type: Fiction
No Profanity

We like the book Isra the Butterfly Get Caught for Show and Tell because it’s about a butterfly and I like butterflies. Isra, her parents, and her two sisters Kelly and Nicole lived in Butterfly Land.

At first Isra’s mother thought that Isra was too small to go outside in the world. Kelly and Nicole were older and were able to get to the outside world faster and safely. One day their mother said they could take Isra to the outside world and Isra was happy.

When they were playing hide and seek. Isra started to get sleepy and she didn’t tell her sisters that she was going to take a nap. While she was napping a girl named Maya saw Isra on a branch. Maya caught Isra and took her home. The next day Maya took Isra to show and tell. Does Maya let her go? You have to read the book to find out.

The cover and the pictures were awesome and I think that this author did an excellent job at telling the story of Isra. I think that next time Isra takes a nap she will let her sisters know her whereabouts. This is a very good book.

JTNW INTERVIEWS CHRISTINE YOUNG ROBINSON

JTNW: What inspired you to become a writer?
CYR: I always made up stories in my head. One day I decide to put my thoughts into writing.

JTNW: Why did you choose write for young adults/children?
CYR: I started writing for children because of my granddaughter, Zalirah. When she was 4 years old, she loved for me to make up stories for her. In case you're wondering, she's about to turn 9 years old.

JTNW: What motivated you to write your book?
CYR: Isra the Butterfly Gets Caught For Show and Tell was one of the stories I told Zalirah. She like it so much she wanted the book. She told me one day, "Grandma, why don't you make me a book and make lots of books for boys and girls. The book, Chicken Wing was motivated by my niece, Yatifah, who has a love for her grandma's chicken wings.

JTNW: How did you come up with the title for your book?
CYR: I quickly told Zalirah to say, "Is" than "Ra". Than I told her the butterfly will be named Isra. My second book, Chicken Wing title is one of my niece's (Yatifah) nicknames.

JTNW: Is any part of your story based on events in your life?
CYR: None of the stories are based on my life.

JTNW: What is the most important message that you want the youth to get out of your book?
CYR:I want the youth to have a strong value of family.

JTNW: What would you like your readers to know about you?
CYR: I want the readers to know that they are a joy to me. And I always look forward to meeting and reading to them. Also, I'm a kid at heart. I collect dolls and beanie type bears. And, for all the twins out there, I'm a twin, too. I have a twin brother. (smile)

JTNW: How long did it take you to write your book?
CYR: It doesn't take that long to write the story. But, the rewriting of the story can take months.

JTNW: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
CYR: Isra is my favorite character in Isra the Butterfly. I love at the end of the story how happy she was to be back home with her family. Chicken Wing is my favorite character in Chicken Wing. I love the part of the story after she and her friends finished eating the chicken wings. She told her grandma how much she enjoyed her wings. And, her friends showed her grandma respect by thanking her, too.

JTNW: What can your readers expect from you in the future?
CYR: My readers can expect from me in the future, two chapter books, Amid and Amiyah "On No, Not Uncle Roy" and Amid and Amiyah, "Oh no, I don't want to go." Also, a picture book, Cliff and the Red Tee-Shirt". Amid and Amiyah are fun stories about a set of twins. Cliff and the Red Tee-Shirt is about a boy who attends his first family reunion.
