I may need to find a used bike and use it for parts. I've had Goldwings and other touring bikes, but the Cavalcade is the best.

The LX had been stored for several years but, we put new gas and battery in her the other night and she started like it had been parted for only a week. I live in Woodward Oklahoma and we tour Colo. New Mexico mostly but, are subject to going anywhere in the US.

Comment: Surfing the net, came across this. I have no doubt. The Cavalcade is the finest touring motorcycle made, worldwide, any year. Have about 65K miles on my '88 Cavalcade LX. 95% of my riding is 2-up. Wife loves it even more than I. (Afraid to ask if she loves it more than me, after 30+ years of marriage one learns not to ask certain questions.) She never hesitates to compare "her" motorcycle to the Gold- wings ridden by most of our friends. We pull a trailer on most long trips. Just returned from 13,849 mile vacation touring 20 states. Ready to do it again tomorrow...

Comment: Just returned from a two week tour of western France on our 1988 LX. Since buying the bike back in Feb '96 we have travelled 8000 miles. My wife and I have meet, talked and toured with Norwegian and Swedish Cavalcade club members the last two years. Having driven a Goldwing, I honestly prefer the Cavalcade for comfort and style. If you live in Great Britain and own a Cavalcade please contact me at my Email address. I am hoping to set up an association of Suzuki Cavalcade Owners in GB. If anyone out there has information on where to buy chrome for the Cade please contact me on Email.

Comment: I have an 86 Cavalcade LXE just purched it and it runs great. I have two questions one, Has any one found a spark plug other than the NGK PJR7A ($10. each) or DENSO x22EPR-GL (what is the GL) I have only seen -U9 also is there any other typy of plugs that will work ok. Second question, Has anyone ran auto Mobil-1 or Castro Synthetic motor oil in there bikes I use to use Golden Spectro in my goldwing but heard that you can use any synthetic as long as it has the SH or CD grade marks on the can. Thanks...Bob

Bike sat out under a tree for 3 years and needs paint but otherwise in great mech condition. Also would like to know if other bikes suffer from a grabby clutch? Clutch also slips only when cold. After warm up no slippage but grabby.

I unfortunatly don't have anough time to ride as much as i would like, due to my work i'm a canadian forces member. I'm a GV1400 Cavalcade 86 owner, this is the greatest bike i ever had. I would like to get some info on your club do you organize tours or rides, me and my wife would be interested to visit your club some time in the summer if time permits. Hope to hear from you guys, Jacques and Fabienne rider of the greates bike in the world.

Comment: Greetings from Midland, TX. Own one of two known Cavs in the area, and absolutely love it. Previously owned three Water Buffalos, so this is only my second 4-stroke. Wouldn't trade it for anything. For general info, the Service Manual is still available thru Suzuki, as is the Microfiche, but the wait may be a little bit. Think they both cost a total of maybe $30.00. Dennis Kirk catalog (1-800-328-9280) has floorboards for the front, and replacement windshields, as well. Have also seen a trailer hitch there. Local Honda dealer has a catalog listing Cav hitches, as well. Attended the Ruidoso event last year, and saw only one other Cav there; we were the only two in maybe 5,000 bikes! We got LOTS of attention! This orginization is long overdue; count me as a member! Andy

I would love to find other Cavalcade owners in the Charlotte, NC area. I seem to have the only one. If you live near Charlotte and have a Cavalcade, please contact me. I'm not a member of any group, since most of the groups are either Harley's, or Goldwings. Both are good bikes, but I'll keep my Cade. Good riding to you all.

Comment: I think I have just hit the "mother load" of getting parts for your Cavalcades. I found a motorcycle junkyard in Kentucky, near Cincinnati, that has 8 Cavalcades. A couple are in fixable condition. I've talked to him and he's very knowledgable, even rides a Cavalcade. He also has rebuilt stators that some of you need, for $165. If you want more info about how to contact him, send me an email. I will usually respond the same day. Be sure to mention "Cavalcade" in the subject section of your email.

Comment: hi there. currently own and ride a '92 1400 intruderand a '97 marauder and while at my local suzuki shop this weekend an '86 cavalcade came in for resale. i asked the owner if i could take it for a 'test' ride before he put it on the floor and he gave me the thumbs up. i TRULY enjoyed the ride and am now seriously thinking of trading the instruder for it. i have read the guestbook log and see that most cavalcade riders agree that it is one of the finest bikes that they have ever ridden. i would be greatly interested in what they DONT like about them. after all, i would rather not buy someone elses problems or headaches. another thing i read that kind of got me going was that everyone was sorry that they stopped producing this bike. why not get together collectively and share your WANTS with suzuki. perhaps they will come back with a NEWER model if there were enough interest. thanks for any and all information you would be willing to share with me elinor

Comment: Try Dennis Kirk for windshields (www.denniskirk.com) - also J.C. Whitney (www.jcwhitneyusa.com). I've seen new windshields advertised in both catalogs. Headsets are available through J&M Electronics. See their Web site. I've has several conversations with them, and they're very helpful, but expensive. Good news is that one of their authorized service centers/retailers is right here in Midland, TX See my note of 3/18/99 regarding other parts. Also, since the Intruder is based on the same engine, some parts may interchange. Start calling all the parts manufacturers you can think of, and remind them of the potential for worldwide sales if their parts can also fit the Cavalcade or can be modified for same. Also get a GOOD relationship going with the local dealer, re: the same. Maybe you can have him/her assist in the process of finding parts, both aftermarket and otherwise. Our combined efforts, worldwide, may make a difference. Especially with aftermarket parts manufacturers. Hit all their websites, send E-mail, make phonecalls, and write letters. And stay in t6ouch. This site is the best thing to happen for us since production stopped on the Cavalcade! Andy

Comment: I have chrome rotor covers for the cavalcade - new in box if anyone is interested. I have replaced the windshield on mine with one form JC Whitney. Most parts so far have still been available (special order) from Suzuki although expensive. Have made custom foot rests for the passenger that allows rider to extend legs on long rides - bolts on and looks like std. equipment. Front fender was damaged in an earlier accident and obtained replacement from Suzuki dealer. Has to be painted however. I have used Champion 810 (RA8HC) plugs to replace the original NGK plugs. Direct replacement and so far good performance. Cost is substantially less and available at automotive parts house.

Comment: WARNING - DRIVESHAFT PROBLEM Perhaps this may save someone a roadside failure or expensive repair. Last summer I had a problem with my 87, approx 57K miles. The bike would seem to slip when taking off and would jerk when shifting. Putting the bike on the center stand, with it in gear, you could rock the rear wheel a little less than a quarter turn. The problem was the U-joint in the drive shaft was failing. When we got it apart, the needle bearings were missing out of two of the cups. This problem was not extreme when it started - just an irritant. Due to the way in which it was failing it would not show up all the time and would smooth out at higher speeds. If we hadn't caught it, it would have been disastrous on a road trip and a lot more expensive. The shaft is available from Suzuki but is a special order part ($180). I have a good mechanic that doesn't charge like a dealer so I don't know what the labor would be at a shop. The U-joint is not repairable. Also make sure the spline is greased where it enters the final drive and trans. If you have any Gold Wing friends out there....They should also have the drive disassembled on their bikes the next time they are in the shop and have the spline greased on their driveshafts. This has been a problem on the Wings. Honda does not grease this. One dealer here has made it a standard practice to disassemble and grease this on every new bike he sells. If the spline goes...the bike won't. A real pain 100 miles from nowhere.

Ha! what a joke The only advantage is that the wing has reverse which is nice when pulling a trailer. If SUZUKI made a new one with reverse I would trade back in a heartbeat but it's too late now so I'm going to look at the BMW next. Comment: Mike, Read your message on the cavalcade web page. It sounds as if you have a leak at the seal between the transmission and the secondary gear case. The transmission is on the right side of the bike, the secondary on the left side (driveshaft). The problem is the seal begins to leak and allows the engine (transmission oil) to leak into the 90 wt gear oil in the secondary. This dilutes the gear oil and allows it to leak out the rear seal. Gives you a false indication of where the leak is. If you take it to a shop, they are likely to replace the secondary rear seal. This may correct the problem temporarily as they will usually change the gear oil out at the same time. This masks the problem until you drive it for awhile and the motor oil gets back into the gear case. Hope this helps. Took my brother a couple of trips to the shop to find this one. If you have a service manual, I believe the seal is shown on page 4-2 Item #15.

Comment: If you want more information about your Suzuki Cavalcade and would like to find other owners, click the "Homepage" link above. This link will take you to the Cavalcade_usa email group where you can become a member of our group. You can find parts and other "hard to find" things. We have a lot of knowledgable members who can help you with the day to day problems. The membership is FREE. It's just a group of Cavalcade owners, just like you.

Comment: It's planning time, everyone! The Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally will be held in Ruidoso, NM, September 15-19. This is part of the AMA's 1999 National Road Riding Convention, and they're expecting a big crowd. (Last year's registration was 4000+, Trade Show attendance was estimated at 17,000 over 5 days, and 20,000+ bikers were in the area.) There were only two (2!) Cavalcades that I saw, and neither entered the "Best of Show - Cavalcade" competition, so the trophy went unclaimed. My wife and I have just confirmed our reservations, and I've heard from one NM Cavalcade rider attending; I'd sure like to see our association represented by more than just the two of us. And for sure I'm entering for that trophy! For further information, go to the site above, and come join the party. We're looking forward to seeing everyone!

Comment: I just purchased a 1987 'Cade with 51K on it, immaculate condition, lotsa chrome, etc. I have ridden an '83 Wing, and cannot agree more that the Cade is by far the better of the two. The fellow I bought it from now has a Kawa Nomad 1500 (Doh!) - Hope he doesn't want the Cade back! My fiance's first experience on a bike was my Honda CB750C - she rides on occasion but is not thrilled with the smallness of it; now she will not quit asking 'where can we ride to now?' Nice problem to have I suppose :o) I would be interested in finding out more about a trailer hitch...

Last year I put a side car on her and although I ride all year, don't have to worry if the weather turns slippry. Massachusetts can get some nasty snow storms as you know. Well, thanks again! Ralph

Comment: I recently bought my first touring bike, an 87' Cavalcade LXE and get a kick out of talking with new Goldwing owners about our bikes. They often show me buttons on their new Goldwings and talk as if I don't know what these "new" features are, and I often have to reply with the answer that my '87 Suzuki Cavalcade also has that "new" feature. I quickly realized that I had purchased a touring bike that was way before it's time when produced. Perhaps they had to shut down the Cavalcade production line to give Honda a decade or so to catch up with the quality of the Cavalcade. Great site here and I hope we get a good response of Cavalcade owners. "Those who like'em, like'em a lot!!!"

There has been no major problems with the bike, but it is almost impossible to get accessories for the bike. I live in St. John's, Newfoundland ,Canada and gets to ride about 7 months out of a year. Comment: Greetings from Lancaster, KY - Own a brown/beige '86 LX with just over 16K miles on it. It has been a great tourer for me - pulled a trailer 2 up from Tampa, FL to Michigan then over to DC and back down to Tampa - not a glitch anywhere. This bike has been so dependable and a joy to ride every minute. I've owned it for over 4 yrs. and 10K miles and have been adding to it as time and money permits. New Progressive rear shocks, trim lights, windshield etc. etc. You can't ask for a better bike that will do so much. What do you guys think - Suzuki brings out the "new" Cavalcade for around $8000 - it not only would knock the socks off the Kawa Concours sporttourer but would be an alternative (albeit a better one) to the outrageously costing Gold Wing. Well, Suzuki - how about it? I think they'd just need to dust off their old dies and equipment - put 'em back on the road.

Thanks to those who left tips and contact numbers. Always looking to buy and sell parts not only for Cavalcades but also for Combi-camp tent trailers which are made in Denmark. Currently active with Bigfoot Sidecar Club, Langley, British Columbia. Trying a fix for u-joint problem by replacing u-joint cross with after market product. Home base is Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

Comment: I have been looking for a Cavalcade group for two years. I was convinced I was the only Cavalcade rider left. I happened to find the Norway owners web page with a link to your own. Does anyone know how many Cavalcades are there still operating? Are there any plans for an informal meeting? I live in South Carolina near Columbia. If you get a chance sometime, stop over. Nice to visit with you. Marv Wheaton

Comment: Hi Jeff, I'm an owner of an 86 Cavalcade LX that I bought from a guy at work. He had wrecked it, (minor damage) and I'm still driving it like it is. I'm intrested in finding body parts and other Cade riders to talk with. I agree with other riders that Suzuki made a huge mistake by not continuing its production, I will sign a petition to convince them to restart it if one is available.

As well as trips into Baja Mexico and other "shorter cruises."

Comment: Member of Cavalcade_usa. Own 4 bikes. 91'Honda Nighthawk (1300 mi), 80' Honda CB900C (9000 mi), 77' Suzuki GS550 (9000 mi), and just recently a Suzuki 1986 XL (38,000) in mint condition. What a bike! It has the best balance of engine to gear ratio's to weight of any bike I've ever ridden. It just eats up the road in grand comfort while driving itself. Once I got used to the weight distribution, I found that the Cavalcade communicated to me exactly how it wanted to be driven in order for me to have it do what I wanted. A truly uncanny experience. Suiziki sure missed the boat when it cancelled production of such a good bike. I hope they take a run at it once more. What they had in the mid-80's is still valid today and all it would take is minor updating such as a reverse gear to give Honda's Goldwing some real competition.

Comment: Cavalcade owners who need Fairing repair/repaint or other plastic part repair can look no further then a company called "Born Again Fairings" in San Dimas CA. they only work on Motorcycle Fairings and other bike related plastic parts. They not only repair cracked and damaged pieces, but they always weld new sections if areas are missing and color match to PERFECTION!!!. while I don't own a Cavalcade (I own a 85' Venture Royale), I have used there services and live next to them in La Verne, CA. and if you can only see the work they do!!. These guys are perfectionists and perform the highest quality work I have personally ever seen. I strongly recommend them to anyone who owns a Cavalcade as I know parts are getting harder and harder to come by. Their number is 909-592-7638 Tuesday-Saturday. Good Luck, give 'em a call.
