Two points -
correct paragraphing (topic sentence, support sentences, conclusion sentence, unity, and
coherence)
Three points - no grammar, mechanics, or spelling errors
Two points - 1 to 3 errors of any kind
One point - 4 to 6 errors of any kind
Zero points - 7 or more errors of any kind |
- Each journal entry must be one hundred words
- Proper grammar, mechanics, and spelling is
expected
- Use proper paragraph formatting
- Send all topics at one time as an email

the following topics - identify them by number:
- Do you feel that one human being is worth no
more no less than another human being?
- Many people claim today that urban life is
more dangerous. Do you agree? Why/Why not?
- When electing a President for our country,
would you rather have our President elected by popular vote or electoral vote? Why?
- Marx said, "We are all imprisoned by
our own means of production for survival." What do you think?
- We as humans are all unique. Can you
tell my why?
- They say, "It takes a whole village to
raise a child." Do you live in that village?
- In our society, we are all responsible, or
is it just a segment of our society?
- If you could change one thing in this world,
what would it be?
- What is the difference between an empty
degree and a fulfilled degree?
- We must have a strong foundation for
knowledge. Where does this foundation start?
- If the doctor told you that you only had
three months to live, what would you do?
- If you could live forever, would you?
- For thousands of years man has wondered if
he was alone in the universe. What do you believe?
- What is good and what is evil? Could
they exist without each other?
- Why are the fundamental questions of life
(like where do you come from and why are we here?) so rarely discussed by the average
person?

Essays

Scoring for essays 1, 3, 4 & 5:
Five points - correct

Two points - MLA or APA formatting
Three points - no grammar, mechanics, or spelling errors
Two points - 1 to 3 errors of any kind
One point - 4 to 6 errors of any kind
Zero points - 7 or more errors of any kind
Scoring for essay 2:
In addition to above points,
Five points for effective argument |
- Essays 1, 3, 4 & 5 must
be a minimum of five paragraphs and two pages in length (essays that do not meet this
criteria will be returned)
- Essays that do not meet the writing prompt
will be returned
- Proper grammar, mechanics, and spelling is
expected
- Use proper essay formatting
- Send as email attachments
- Use Microsoft Word
- Double space all work
- Use no larger than 12 font - do not use bold
or italic fonts
- Use MLA or APA formatting (essays that do
not meet this criteria will be returned)

- Essay 2 (argumentative) has
three parts:
Part One - create a list of elements called "Their Side" that you would argue
against
Part Two - create a list of elements called "My Side" that you believe in
Part Three - combine these elements for your argumentative paper
- Discuss evidence and appeals
- This essay must be documented - include at
least one Internet source and one print source - use proper citation formatting both
internally and in a citation page
- Submit both lists and your argumentative
paper
- This essay must be a minimum of four papers
(including the two pages of lists)
- All other requirements shown for essays 1,
3, 4 and 5 apply for this essay

Paper -

Scoring:
Five points for proper

Ten points for correct essay formatting
Ten points for effective use of research
Two points - MLA or APA formatting
Three points - no grammar, mechanics, or spelling errors
Two points - 1 to 3 errors of any kind
One point - 4 to 6 errors of any kind
Zero points - 7 or more errors of any kind

- Essay must be a minimum of eight pages in
length, not including cover page or citation page
- Select a topic of interest
- Proper citation formatting required
- Plagarism will not be condoned
- A minimum of two Internet sources and two
print sources are required
- Download and attach Internet information
- Proper grammar, mechanics, and spelling is
expected
- Use proper essay formatting
- Send as email attachments
- Use Microsoft Word
- Double space all work
- Use no larger than 12 font - do not use bold
or italic fonts
- Use MLA or APA formatting (essays that do
not meet this criteria will be returned)

Reflective
paper -
ten points
- Scoring and formatting is the same as the five
general essays
- Be sure this piece of writing clearly discusses your
growth as a writer over the course of this semester.
