Chapter 1
"If I'm so stupid and irrisponsible, then maybe you had better find yourself a new vocalist!"
The slamming of the door seemed to echo in the sudden silence of the practice room as four young men stared at it. The fifth member of their group had stormed off and, surprising from his slight frame, had almost ripped the door from his hindges. Amazing what one could do when pissed off.
Kaoru swallowed, trying to take the shock from his eyes. He'd been furious only a few seconds before, but now... he could tell that he had gone too far. Suppose Kyo never forgave him for this?
"Shit!" he cursed under his breath, turning to see the surprised and half-accusing eyes of the other three members of the band. He turned away from them, feeling defensive. It wasn't like it had been all his fault.
They had been waiting for Kyo. Practice time was becoming scarce during their new-found popularity, with all the other things they had to do. However, fifteen minutes, a half an hour, an hour, then a second hour had passed before the vocalist had finally stumbled into the practice room. They only had one hour remaining before they had to clear the room for another group, and their next practice hadn't been able to be scheduled again for another three days.
Needless to say, Kaoru had been practically frothing at the mouth by the time Kyo had arrived.
----
"So you've finally decided to grace us with your presence, Kyo-sama?" he questioned with a sarcastic snort, glaring at the blond as he entered.
"Lay off," Kyo muttered at him darkly.
"You jerk! You keep us waiting for two hours, knowing perfectly well that we have to get all the practice that we can, and you say things like that to me when you arrive? Don't you even have an excuse?" Kaoru exclaimed, storming up to Kyo's side, shoving his shoulder. He knew he was reacting badly, but the future of Dir en Grey was on the line. The least Kyo could do was show up for practice when they managed to schedule it!
Kyo glared openly at him and shoved him back. "I said, lay off! I don't have the patience to listen to your whining right now," he growled.
"Well, you are just going to have to tough it. Clearly, I was mistaken that you had dedication to this band. Practice is the most important thing that we do, and you can't even be bothered to show up on time! You've been late before, but never this late. I can't believe that you would do something so stupid and irrisponsible as this!" Kaoru shouted back.
Toshiya tried to break the verbal sparing match, but neither of them paid much attention to the bassist. Finally, he could do nothing but stand next to Die and Shinya, staring as the fight escalated.
"Irrisponsible? Stupid?" Kyo sputtered.
"Exactly! Traits I'm sure you've grown used to, but have no place in this group!" Kaoru replied, his fist clentching.
Kyo looked as though Kaoru had actually raised that fist and hit him. The expression of shock lasted only a minute before it was overcome with anger. "Fine!" he exclaimed, spinning on his heel and all but running toward the door. "If I'm so stupid and irrisponsible, then maybe you should find yourself a new vocalist!"
----
Kaoru sighed and slumped down into one of the couches provided. The others were still staring at him and he shook his head. "I shouldn't of said that. He had been late before, but never two hours unless there was a reason," he said to himself. Kyo had been furious with him, perhaps even hurt by his words. He would have to appologize as soon as possible, even though he didn't want to. After all, Kyo had been extremely late and never even called to let them know why. Kaoru's pride didn't want to admit to the fact that he'd been worried to death.
