Chapter 2

Toshiya walked into the apartment he shared with Kyo, heavy-hearted. Practice had been cancelled that day after Kaoru and Kyo's fight. Without Kyo there, and since none of them felt like practicing anyway, it would of been a waste of time. The two of them seemed to like to disagree, but it had never been this serious before. Kaoru had asked to come over later, although reluncatntly, to appologize to Kyo. Toshiya had agreed quickly to let the other visit without letting Kyo know, in case the other would refuse to see him.

"Kyo? Are you home?" he called out.

There was no reply. Toshiya wasn't worried, however, considering the amount of hours that Kyo slept. Making his way toward the vocalist's room, Toshiya peeked his head through the door and smiled when he saw Kyo sprawled out on his bed, still dressed, snoring slightly as he slept. Kyo had become like a brother to him. A cute, although slightly insane, brother.

"Hey, you should wake up, or you won't get any sleep tonight," Toshiya scolded softly as he shook Kyo's shoulder. He knew that it wasn't true, but he wanted to wake Kyo up and see how he was doing after his fight with Kaoru.

When he received no reply, Toshiya frowned. "Kyo?" he questioned, shaking harder. However, no matter how hard he shook or how loudly he called, Kyo would remain fast asleep.

Sitting on the bed, Toshiya was worried. "What is going on?" he questioned, leaning up to brush the hair from Kyo's forehead. When he came in contact with the other's skin, Toshiya gasped in shock. Kyo's forehead felt as though it were on fire! Looking closely in the dim lighting of the room, Toshiya noticed for the first time that there was presperation all over Kyo's forehead, soaking his hair. His snores were not actually snores, but small moans that he was making in his sleep. His expression looked as though he were in pain.

Jolting to his feet, Toshiya ran for the telephone.

"I need an ambulance! My friend is extremely hot, and he won't wake when I call him! I don't think I could drive well enough right now, I'm so worried," Toshiya cried out. He gave the person on the other line his name and phone number.

Once he hung up, Toshiya began to pace. He fidgetted as he paced, wondering what he could do. The ambulance would take at least fifteen minutes to get there, because their apartment was not close to a hospital. The time seemed to stretch on forever.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Toshiya yanked it open so fast that the other person jumped. It wasn't the people to pick up Kyo, it was Kaoru.

"Toshiya, what's wrong?" Kaoru questioned, shocked to see Toshiya looking so frightened. His skin was pale, and it looked as though tears were forming in his eyes.

"Kyo's sick! I called an ambulance, but - " Toshiya finally broke down, crying into Kaoru's shoulder.

The guitarist froze in place, his eyes wide. Kyo had been sick? And he'd yelled at the vocalist for not showing up. Kaoru felt guilty, and more than a little pety. He'd blamed Kyo for not being committed, after the vocalist had managed to drag himself to practice. If he was sick enough that Toshiya was in tears, then the situation was definately a bad one.

"Let's go check on him, okay? We'll stay with him until the ambulance gets here," Kaoru suggested. When Toshiya nodded, he led the other man into Kyo's room.

Turning on the light, Kyo's condition was instantly noticable. Kaoru gasped, his heart seeming to stop for a moment. Letting go of Toshiya, Kaoru raced to the bed and placed a hand on Kyo's forhead. He felt so hot!

"We need to do something to help him," he exclaimed.

"Cold water!" Toshiya suddenly burst out, rushing from the room. He was back only a few moments later, a sopping wet cloth in his hand.

Kaoru took it, mopping Kyo's face. "Call Shinya and Die. Get them to meet us at the hospital," he told the bassist, not turning his attention away from the vocalist. His own breathing was almost as shallow as Kyo's, strained from worry. How could Kyo of gotten this ill without any of them noticing?

Toshiya had just hung up the phone after calling the other two members of the band when the ambulance arrived. Moving quickly, the paramedics put Kyo into the ambulance and Toshiya and Kaoru rode with him to the hospital. Kaoru watched as the men took Kyo's temperature, his blood pressure, and whatever it else they had to do.

He felt numb, as though he were in shock. All this time, he had fought with the vocalist, argued with him, and worked next to him. They'd performed together, shared jokes and cigarettes and success. They had fought physically, and stood up for each other. He'd fallen hard for the energetic-but-lazy visual kei vocalist. And he hadn't even known Kyo was sick.
