Rite Freemasons Challenge the 21st Century John
Adams is preparing a study of future alternatives for the New Mexico
Scottish Rite Foundation (for Childhood Language Disorders). Biographical
Sketch February 27, 2004 John Russell Adams was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico June 8, 1951 to
E. W. (Eddie) Adams and Louise Russell Adams. Attending Carlsbad schools he graduated
from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1969 and attended Michigan State
University as a National Merit Scholar. His initial interest was
in international relations but exposure to the policy sciences at James
Madison College led him to study urban community policy problems, a field of
concentration now called political economics. Special studies included
Community Mental Health, Urban Economics and Design and Simulation, Public
Administration and Organization Management, and Budgeting in the Public Sector.
He completed his field experience at the AFL-CIO Labor Studies Center and
worked for the Computer Institute for Social Science Research and the MSU
Community Development Institute where he compiled the index to A Handbook of
County Government. Leaving MSU in 1973 with a
Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with high honors he returned to New Mexico
to join the State Tourism and Travel Division and as head of the Research
Bureau he set up a system to track the Economic Impact of Tourism on New
Mexico's Economy. He was an active board member of the Tourism and Travel
Research Association (national) and a board member of the National Council of
State Travel Directors when he served in that position with the NM Economic
Development and Tourism Department. Later, serving as Director of Marketing
for the NM Economic Development and Tourism Department he was in charge of
administering the Community Matching Grants Program, printing and advertising
contracts. In 1987, at a change in
gubernatorial administrations, Adams left state government to do marketing
and promotion consulting work for companies in the travel industry and later
that year joined Nobel/Sysco Food Services as a Marketing Associate. In 1996
Adams joined Quinn Southwest, the Santa Fe Division of SWS Securities, and is now a Financial Advisor specializing in retirement and estate
planning and small organization and institutional investing. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association. He also attends meetings of the Estate Planning Council
of Santa Fe. Adams is a member of the Tourism Association of New Mexico, the
Santa Fe and New Mexico Lodgers Associations, the Las Vegas/San Miguel County Chamber of
Commerce and the Santa Fe County Chamber of Commerce. Adams is a member of St.
John's United Methodist Church where he has served in many leaderships positions. An active Freemason, Adams
is a Past Master of Montezuma Lodge #1, AF&AM (1987), a Past District
Deputy Grand Master of the Second Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of New
Mexico, AF&AM, and continues to serve as a member of the Education and
Public Schools Committee of the Lodge helping to select students to receive
the scholarships awarded annually by Montezuma Lodge. Having served as presiding
officer of three of the four bodies of Scottish Rite Masonry for the Valley
of Santa Fe, Adams is a past Treasurer for the Santa Fe bodies and is a
33rd degree, Inspector General Honorary of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish
Rite, Southern Jurisdiction. In January 2001 he was appointed to the Board of
Directors of the New Mexico Scottish Rite Foundation and is coordinating work
on two pilot projects to establish dyslexia and reading programs in New
Mexico schools from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. |
