I enrolled in the University of Southwestern Louisiana, later renamed
"University of Louisiana at Lafayette." After four and a half years,
I graduated from the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette in December of 2000 with a B.S. in chemical engineering . I graduated
with Magna Cum Laude honors. While going to school full time (and
maintaining a 3.9 GPA), I also worked part-time at the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette Department of Chemical Engineering. I have experience
in various industries, including commodity chemicals, oil and gas, specialty
chemicals, and academic polymer research. As a National Science Foundation
summer intern at the
Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films , I worked for
ten weeks within a multi-disciplinary research team, including mathematicians,
computer scientists, and chemical engineers. The experience contributed
to my understanding of polymer processing, of transportation of fluids, and
of the importance of good communication skills. See my resume and/or recent
work for more details. More important than that, I had the best time
of my life while I was there. We went whitewater rafting and mountain
climbing, on a trip to Chatanooga, TN, Charleston and Myrtle Beach, SC,
and Atlanta, GA. I met some wonderful people while in Clemson, SC.
The experience has changed my life, to say the least.
After graduating, I accepted a position with Monsanto , the producer's of Roundup®,
in Luling, LA. I worked for Monsanto until I moved to College Station,
TX to attend graduate school at Texas A&M in the Fall of 2001.
While at Texas A&M, I will be pursuing my Ph.D. in chemical engineering.
The experience at Monsanto improved my understanding of industrial
operations and manufacturing. I gained experience in yet another industry
in which chemical engineering plays an important role, specialty chemicals.
While at Monsanto, I worked on a number of projects. The most important
for Monsanto as well as myself was focused on recovering unreacted raw materials.
I learned alot about time management, corporate politics, teamwork,
and the importance of good written and oral communication skills.
Loi Tran and Carlos Deloach have helped me develop as a person and
an engineer, and for that I am grateful.
