Classroom rules: Class rules should be mounted on the notice board which should be at the students' eye level. The number of rules should be limited to a maximum of 4. Provide pictures and use short phrases instead of complete sentences (eg 'talk softly'). These rules must be discussed with the class before the start of lessons, and more than once a day if necessary.

Physical boundaries: Reorganise the physical environment so that there are delineated areas for specific forms of instructing. Use the cupboards to provide borders or stick bright, thick masking tape on the floors.

Worksheets: Single sheet worksheets should be used instead of books. There should not be too much information on worksheets. If necessary, divide the number of questions on a single worksheet into 2 or 3 separate worksheets. However, the student must be informed in advance, the number of worksheets he has to do.

Schedules: Each student should have their own individual schedule with their photograph attached.

Teaching style: -Only 1 adult is to provide verbal instructions. Other adults present (eg co-teachers, volunteers, caregivers) may only give slight physical prompts (eg touching the student's elbow lightly), provided that the amount of prompts given has been discussed with the main teacher before the lesson. -The teacher should control her voice. Whispering tends to have a calming effect. When teaching on a 1:1 basis, it is preferable to stand at the side of or behind the student. Standing in front of the student may be too intimidating for some of the students.
