THINKING ABOUT HAVING A WEDDING ON THE OUTER BANKS?
Renting a home for a ceremony or reception has become trendy on the Outer Banks. Here, we thought we were the only ones! There are several realtors on the OBX that are "wedding friendly" and have specific homes that allow weddings. Be sure to check all the guidelines and understand the additional fees required. We worked with several rental agencies in the area. They were all prompt and freindly. After doing our own site vists to several homes, we chose a home with ResortQuest. The original home was beach front. Unfortunately, the owner of the property wanted $20,000 (yes, that many "0's") to hold the reception at his home. Mind you the owner had already approved his home for special events. Needless to say, we chose another home and were very satisifed with it. Thuy Aiken, who was the Special Events Coordinator, was a delight to work with and went above and beyond her call to assist us. She has since been promoted (yeah, Thuy), but we are sure that her replacement can answer any questions you may have. We highly recommend ResortQuest for your housing needs on the OBX.
Finding a florist on the Outer Banks proved to be difficult. We think it is standard to assume that as you shop for flowers you will enocunter serious sticker shock. We estimated flowers as I did everything else in planning the wedding and the price was more than we imagaine. Not a big deal, per se, just something to be aware of. Betty Laughridge is one of the nicest most thoughtful women you will meet. Out of the many florists we spoke to on the Outer Banks she was the one who got back with us the quickest. She even brought one of the flowers we were using to the OBX Wedding Expo so that we might compare it with the bridesmaid's dresses. We could not have asked for a more accomdating person to plan with. Unfortunately, while the flowers were beautiful, they were not at all what we envisioned. We are not talking about the lights and cosmetic touchups that magazines do, we are talking about style and specific requests. For example, for the centerpiece for the church we wanted a vase full of gladiola's no greenry, just the flowers. What we did get, a vase full of gladiolas and greenry. We were very detailed in our instructions and included pictures of the flowers we expected. Unfortunately, our requests did not funnel down to what we recieved on our wedding day. In the end we were satisfied with the flowers and service we received.
I had experience with Eden Day Spa beginning with my bridal portraits. They were professional and accomdating as from my portaits to the wedding day. All of my bridesmaids and my flower girl had their hair and nails done and I had the full works with hair, nails, makeup, massage, and pedicure. I am very picky about who does my hair and the owner, Mary, was a joy to work with. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she made it happen. I could have not have been more pleased. The bridesmaids were also pleased with their services. I would happily recommend them again and will use them when I am need of a spa break the next time I am on the OBX.
