6th Grade

SIXTH GRADE

    Expressive use of the body and voice.  Provide opportunities to:

    1.  develop body awareness and spatial perception using rhythmic and
         imitative movement, sensory awareness, and pantomime
    2.  express concepts using interpretative movement
    3.  create original dialogue
    4.  utilize sensory and emotional recall in characterizations

    Creative drama.  Provide opportunities to dramatize literary stories
    and/or original stories using activities such as:

    1.  shadow play
    2.  pantomime
    3.  imitative dialogue
    4.  improvisation
    5.  characterization
    6.  puppetry
    7.  situation role-play
    8.  storytelling

    Aesthetic growth through appreciation of theatrical events.  Provide
    opportunities to:

    1.  view theatrical events emphasizing player-audience relationship;
         audience etiquette; recognition of similarities and
         and differences between television, film, and live theatre, and
         evaluation and aesthetice judgments
   2.   participate in group planning for story dramatization incorporating
         analysis of character behavior, recognition of dramatic conflicts,
         prediction of plot resolutions, and suggestions for alternative course
         of action.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE DRAMA

    (Eight is a continuation and progression of seven)

    Expressive use of the body and voice.  Provide opportunities to:

    1.  develop sensory and emotional awareness;
    2.  experiment with imitative and interpretive movement;
    3.  use pantomime; and
    4.  develop vocal expression.

    Acting concepts and skills.  Provide opportunites to:

    1.  utilize improvisation;
    2.  practice dramatic storytelling;
    3.  explore creative dramatization'
    4.  develop basic acting techniques; and
    5.  experiment with dramatize interpretation.

    Theatre production concepts and skills.  Provide opportunities to:

    1.  explore readers' theatre; and
    2.  explore scene/play production

    Aesthetic growth through appreciation of theatrical events.  Provide
    opportunites to:

    1.  develop an appreciation of theatre;
    2.  practice audience etiquette;
    3.  attend live theatrical events (to be encourages); and
    4.  analyze and evaluated theatrical experiences.
