Once you have determined that an Extender is available for your remote, you should do the following:
· Download the Extender package from the Extenders folder in the Files section of the JP1 Users Group.
· Read the Readme file packaged with the extender.
· Read the Installation instructions packaged with the extender if they exist.
· Most Extenders do not support Learned keys. If you have any learned keys, you will probably need to create a device upgrade to eliminate your dependency on them. See the JP1 for Beginners help document to learn how to create a device upgrade. Another option is to go back to the portion of the Self Help Guide describing how to create a new Device Upgrade.
· Create a backup file of your existing remote configuration. You can always use this to go back to a non-extended version of your remote if you choose.
· Install the Extender in your remote by doing the following:
o Most Extenders offer two ways to load them into IR. The easiest way is to simply open the provided Extender file in IR and then manually reprogram all of your settings in IR. The more complex way involves using the ExtInstall program in the Programs folder in the Files section of the JP1 Users Group. Using the ExtInstall program will automatically copy your existing programming into the Extender file.
o When you open up the Extender file or the file created by the ExtInstall program, IR should now identify the remote type and note that it is using an Extender.
o Upload the Extender from IR to the Remote. You should get a message stating the your remote’s signature has changed. This is expected and OK.
o Once the Extender has been uploaded to the remote, you need to activate the Extender. In most cases, this involves pressing the Power button while in TV mode.
If you have any questions installing or using an Extender, you should post a message to the Messages section of the JP1 Users Group.
Do you want to go back to the portion of this Self Help Guide which

No, I was able to install an Extender for my remote without adding a new Device Upgrade.
