Even if your remote isn’t pre-programmed to control your device, you should be able to upgrade your remote using JP1 so that it will be able to control it.
Before going through the entire process of building an upgrade from scratch, it’s worth looking in a number of different locations to see if someone else has already created an upgrade for your device that you can use. You should note that as long as someone created an upgrade for your device, you will be able modify it for your device, even if they originally created it for a different remote than what you are using. When looking for upgrades, if you find one for your specific model, that’s great. If your specific model isn’t listed, but there are upgrades for other models by the same manufacturer, you should try those. Many times, a manufacturer will use the same remote commands in multiple models.
One tool you can use to create an upgrade to add support for your device the the Keymap-Master spreadsheet. The JP1 Users Group contains an entire directory in the Files section with upgrades that other JP1 users have already created. Before creating your own, you should look there.
The Reference Links section below contains a link the ‘3. Device Codes’ folder in the Files section of the JP1 Users Group. There are additional subfolders for many different device types (i.e. TV’s, VCR’s., DVD’s, etc). Go into the subdirectory for the device type you wish to control. Once you are in the correct device type subdirectory, review the list of the TXT files to see in any files are available for your specific device. Remember, even if your specific model isn’t listed but there are other devices by the same manufacturer, you should try them. Also remember, even if the file you want to use refers to a different remote than what you have, you can still use it with your remote.
Were you able to find a TXT upgrade file (or files) that look like they will
work for your specific device?
Yes, I was able to find one or more
upgrade files which look like they might work for my device.
