Using Learned Signals to Create a Device Upgrade

The first step in creating a Device Upgrade for your JP1 remote is to learn the signals you need to control the device into your JP1 compatible remote.  You then need to decode them using the IR program.

To do this, perform the following steps:

·        Using the learning process described in your JP1 compatible remote’s manual, learn the keys (you may have to repeat this step multiple times) you want to include in your device upgrade from the OEM remote into the JP1 compatible remote.  Keep track of what keys you are learning onto each of the JP1 remote buttons.  Note that you can usually learn keys onto most keys on a JP1 remote, not just the keys designated for learning.

·        Verify that the learned signals correctly operate the device for which you are creating a device upgrade.

·        Download the contents of the JP1 compatible remote into the IR program.

·        Go the Learning Signals tab in IR.  A list of buttons with learned signal will be displayed on the left hand side of the tab.

·        Confirm that the IR program was able to decode the learned signals by clicking on the individual keys listed on the left hand side of the tab.  If IR was able to decode the signal, it will decode the signal and display the decoded information in the topmost box on the right hand side of the tab.  You will need this information to create a Device Upgrade.  If IR was not able to decode the signal, it will display a message to that effect.

·        Create a spreadsheet, notes, or something else to keep track of the decoded information for each button that you learned.

·        Repeat the process until you have decoded all of the buttons on the device’s original remote.

Was IR able to decode the learned signals from your OEM remote?

Yes, IR was able to decode the learned signals and display the information needed to create a device upgrade.

No, the JP1 compatible remote was not able to learn the signals from the OEM remote.

No, the JP1 compatible remote was able to learn the signals but IR wasn’t able to decode the learned signal.
