IR supports all of the functionality you can manually program into your JP1 compatible remote. There are tabs in IR were you can add, edit, or delete Macros, Keymoves, and any other functionality that your remote supports. Depending upon your remote, this could include Fav/Scan lists, Timed Macros, Home Theater settings, and many other things.
Additionally, IR will often allow you to extend basic functionality, allowing you to program macros and keymoves on keys where it’s impossible to manually program them. This often varies from remote to remote. One remote may let you program macros on the device buttons (i.e. Radio Shack 15-2116) and another may not (i.e. Radio Shack 15-1994). The best way to find out what you can do with your remote is to try it. If it doesn’t work, you can always restore the remote back to an earlier setting. The important thing to keep in mind is the IR will let you attempt to program almost anything. You won’t know if it works or not until you upload it to your remote and test it.
The Beginner’s Guide to JP1 explains how to use IR to program Macros and Keymoves. Sections 8 Creating Advanced Codes, 9 Creating Macros, and 10 Experimenting with IR explain in more detail how to use IR to support basic JP1 remote functionality.
