There is a problem that is preventing your PC from communicating with your remote. The cause could be a faulty JP1 Cable, an incorrectly specified printer port, or a number of other things. The error message generated by IR should identify a several items to check. If it does not, use the Check Interface option under the Interface menu to generate a more detailed error message. If you built your own JP1 connection, the documentation used to build it should also include details about how to troubleshoot it.
Below are some common sources of communication problems:
· Laptop usage – The Simple Interface design assumes that pin 25 of the parallel port is Ground. In a small number of PC’s, especially laptops, this is not the case. The documentation for the Simple Interface explains how to adjust the interface if this occurs.
· Using 10K resistors – The original design of the Simple Interface recommended using 10K resistors to build the interface. This has now been updated to specify 1K resistors, but some outdated copies of the instructions are still available on some websites.
· Remote interface upside-down – It is possible that the six pin connector was attached upside-down. Try reversing the connection.
· Battery Variations – Depending on the PC and the type of remote, sometimes the interface will work with batteries installed, sometimes with no batteries installed, and sometimes with ½ installed. Some users have reported success with only new batteries, some with old. Try different combinations.
Were you able to perform a successful download after trying the
suggestions recommended above?
Yes, I have now performed a successful download (or at
least got past the initial error).
No, I am still getting the same error when attempting a download.
