JP1 is the term used refer to a collection of programs, documentation, data, web pages and forums used to program, upgrade, and customize a number of universal remote controls made by Universal Electronics Inc (UEI). UEI remotes are sold under a number of different brand names, including but not limited to One-For-All, and Radio Shack. They also make many remotes distributed by cable companies and device manufacturers including Time Warner, Comcast, and ReplayTV.
Since the JP1 products were developed separately over the course of several years, they are often located in a number of diverse locations and the documentation for them is often in various states of maturity and currency. Because of this, it is often difficult for a beginner to quickly find exactly what they need to solve their problem or program their remote without doing a lot of digging and investigation.
This Self Help Guide is designed to help. It will lead you through a series of questions until a specific problem is identified. At that point, it will provide a high level description of the solution and point you to additional, more detailed documentation. If the initial recommendation does not resolve your problem, it may continue to offer additional suggestions. Because this guide is designed with the beginner in mind, it will attempt to explain and define any technical JP1 terms before using them.
