My 1987 Samurais
December 1999 I purchased my first sami. I bought it for $500.00. It had a blown engine and was in stock condition. I immediatly bought a 30K mile import engine and installed it. A few months later I got a set of 15x8 white spokes for free. I bought a set of 235/75's and put them on the new wheels. I had to cut and trim a little bit in order for them to fit. It sat this way until Aug. 2001 when I bought a 5.5" SPOA. It was coming along slowly. I found a set of 31" BFG/AT's behind work and put them on. Shortly after that A friend of mine was selling his 33/12.50 GY MT/R's. I had to buy them. Now the sami was looking good. I installed a set of 1" lift/2" longer shackles to lift it a little more. It flexes well. Now I needed more power. I sent the cylinder head off to AAPA. They shaved it 20 thou and installed new 1.6 exhaust valve seats. The same time I ordered a low/mid range cam. This thing runs good. With the stock gearing I can still drive 65mph on I-15. The next step was to do the t-case. I bought the 4.16 kit from Glenn at RRO. Very simple to install and it has made a world of difference. I bought a lockright from work and put it in. These two things made wheeling way too easy. (until I got to Moab) The sami has come along way in 2 years and still has a long way to go. I'll keep this sight updated as things progress.
