| Flip This Coin While cleaning and reorganizing junk, Mom found some coins that Uncle Paul gave her years ago. A real silver doller from 1885. A half dollar from the year each of her children were born and the year she and Dad got married. And a coin from the Philippins... It reads "One Peso" and "Filipinas" and depicts a woman hammering an anvil with Mayon volcano in the background. The flip side reads "United States of America 1905" and depicts the eagle on a shield with 13 stars and 13 stripes. To hold this silver pieace with Filipinas one one side and United States of America on the other underscores a a forgotten history of where we were nearly 100 years ago. |
