I wanted to tell you about a most amazing thing that happened to Audrey (my only child) on her way to Minneapolis (from Arizona) in 1991.
She and Joel had dated for about 4
years. He had just graduated from ASU and had a scholarship to
get his Doctorate in Minnesota. The plan was that Joel would go
ahead, and get the apartment, and she would follow with ther
stuff, and they would get married there and this would be the
start of a long and happy life. So, in late August of 1991, we
loaded her stuff, from her apartment into a bus that her Dad was
driving at the time, and the plan was that she would drive her
pick-up and follow him to Minneapolis. He went ahead to wait for
her in the mountains where it was cooler and she and I spent a
day together before she left. It was a special time. There were
going to be a lot of 1st in the next few weeks. She had shared an
apartment with 2 other girls for a year but she was not far from
home. She had never driven across country before. She was going
to be married soon and I wasn't even going to be there. It was
big event in our lives. So, she left her mama one afternoon in
her little white truck and nothing in it but her cat in the seat
beside her and a backpack with overnight necessities in the back.
Just before she left, while she was getting the last of her things together, I went out to her truck and put my hands on the hood and just kinda groaned a prayer asking for "Angels to go with her and keep her safe". In fact...the last thing I said to her as she was backing out was, "Wear your seat belt. Don't speed. Drive carefully. You have a truck load of Angels, you take care of them and they will take care of you!"
She left!
At first I felt so sad, my *only* was leaving and life would never be the same. Then, I felt a great peace about it all. I was Thankful the kids wanted to get married and not just live together like so many do. I knew Joel loved her, and she loved him, and I was supportive of them. I was disappointed that I wouldn't be there, but I was glad her Dad was going to accompany her on this long trip. He is (another story), but he does love Audrey, and she loves her Dad, and he is a safety conscious driver and I could trust him to watch out for her on the road. I was glad about that.
SO...she called the next evening, a little earlier than I had expected, but said that they were not making real good time because she had a little trouble with her truck. She said she ran off the road a little bit and dented the fender of her truck. "Oh!...anything else?" I said. "Well, yes, there's a dent in the door, sorta, too". "Well!, I said, no problem, those things can be fixed. I'm thankful you are okay...its very dangerous to run off the road, you could have rolled and been thrown out and killed! It happens every day!"
She said they were going to tow her truck the rest of the way and she would just ride in the bus with her Dad. I thought..."well, it scared her, and she doesn't want to drive anymore, and that is a good plan. All is well! Thank you Lord!!"
And all was well, the rest of that evening and that night. BUT!!...the next morning when I woke up, it was as tho satan himself must have been setting on my night stand just waiting for me to open my eyes, because the first thought that came to my mind was "Uh haaa...and I thought you prayed, asking for Angels to go with her and keep her safe! And she had a little accident already! Seems like those Angels and your prayers are just a lot of wishful thinking and there is really nothing to Prayer or this "asking and receiving" stuff you rely on. In fact....IF there is a God...you'll never reach Him with something so trivial as "prayer", you know.....and....and....and" ....satan was in my face, with ever doubt and fear and accusation against God and the authority of His Word, that you can imagine. He kept at me all day. I couldn't eat. I couldn't set still. (Thank God I hadn't quit smoking yet!.....I might have taken it up again! haha) I was having a spiritual battle like you wouldn't believe. I wasn't worried. I'd talked to her. I knew she was okay and certainly the dents in the truck didn't bother me. So What was the matter with me?!! I was a mess. Then, I thought....."How am I going to continue to tell Audrey about the Lord when she knows I ask God for Angels to go with her and keep her, and then THIS happened?"
Regressing just a little......just before she left here...a friend of mine had left a little kitty condo here one time. Everyone had thought it should be thrown away, but no one did the deed. Audrey's cat took a real liking to it and we called the friend and ask if she could take the "Condo".... (you know...a round thing with carpet on it for cats to crawl into and etc.).. and she said, "YES, in fact, I meant to ask Audrey if she would like to have that". We decided to set it in the front seat with her, thinking maybe the cat would feel secure with it right there. So...off they went.
SO.....She called the second evening and almost the first words out of her mouth were, "Mom, I want to tell you what REALLY happened yesterday." Well, Needless to say, I needed to hear by that time. I HAD-TO make some kind of sense out of this spiritual dilemma I was suffering. I simply could not believe there was no answer other than "God doesn't answer prayer after all" like satan had been saying all day!
Then she said, "We were going about 60 MPH on a 2 lane
highway. I was following Dad. The cat was still mad and wouldn't
eat. I reached down on the floor where I had some food for the
cat and intended to hold a piece of food for her thinking she
would eat it then, and I got my right side wheels off the
pavement. I remember thinking I was going to go into the ditch,
and tried to get back on the road". Mama, I wrecked the
truck real bad! I rolled three times and its a mess!
I said "Audrey!....are you hurt?" She said, "No". I'm sore, and have some bruises, but I'm not hurt. She filled me in on some other details then, and gave the phone to her Dad who told me his version of it.
He said, He just happened to look in his rear-view mirror and saw what he thought was a dirt-devil crossing the road, just a lot of dust with debris in it. He leaned forward to get a better look to see how Audrey would come thru it, when he realized, that wasn't a dirt devil, that was AUDREY!....she just went flying off into the desert end over end!
He slammed on his brakes, threw the bus in reverse and went back as fast as he could. She was off the road on the opposite side and about 150 foot the other side of a deep ditch. The truck was laying on the drivers side with the bottom of the truck facing him. He said he ran towards the truck, crouched, searching every inch thinking surely he was going to find her someplace around there. As he got nearer the truck, he could hear something tapping. When he got around to the other side he saw her kicking feet sticking out the back where the back glass used to be!
He reached in thru the back window and was searching for her body and discovered she was out thru the drivers side window from the waist up and was pinned under the side of the truck. About that time....She said "Daddy, I'm okay". He said he thinks he said something about "trying to get her out" and she said, If you will hold the truck so it won't fall, I think I can crawl out. In a blur he said he ran around to the bottom side of the truck again, and reached under and felt her, and pulled and she came right out. He stood her up and looked at her. She was a little pale, but had a scratch on her elbow and a tiny little nick on her cheek. He said he wiped her face with his sleeve and just couldn't believe she was standing there!
I'm sure they were both shaking so hard they could hardly stand. Soon people started to arrive. The ambulance came, checked her out and let her go. The HWY patrol came and gave her a ticket for not wearing her seat-belt. A wrecker came, righted the truck and took it into the next town, and they were left to search for this cat. She was NOT to be found.
The Highway Patrol investigated the accident and took the picture of the truck at the site. They said she went completely off the road on the right and over corrected, as most do. She came back onto the pavement with such force the truck turned around 180 degrees as it crossed the pavement and stuck the dirt on the left side of the road with the right side wheels first. At that point it popped the two tires on the right side off of the rims and proceeded to roll just over 3 complete rolls. They had NO explanation as to how she could have survived being thrown from that truck and pinned under it as she was. (Course NOW WE KNOW!...ANGELS AT WORK!!) [BIG SMILE]>!!!
The Kitty Condo was under the truck right beside where Audrey was pinned. It was only about 18 inches tall anyway, and was crushed down into the dirt a little and the door dented in a little on the other side, but there was just a tiny space in there for a little girls body and it was just enough that she was not crushed, yet tight enough that she couldn't just get out. AND, she said later, that she thought she was holding the truck up because she was pushing as hard as she could.
By the time I was hearing these things, I was out of my chair rejoicing!! I couldn't see anything BUT a Miracle in all of this!! It was my opinion, and still is, that the LORD really Shut old satans mouth on this one! It occurred to me that there was a testimony here about the Love of God, the Power of Prayer, and The reality of His Angels upon request, that was not going to be taken lightly! I realized that if this had not happened, there wouldn't have been a testimony. We might even have forgotten to Thank God for the safe trip when it was over! Certainly, no one would have given the whole thing a second thought! But this way...it was undeniable! And many would hear this story! And *some* would Believe!!
It took them 2 hours to find the cat. Very much alive. Hadn't moved an inch from where she had been thrown. Still had her feet covered with dirt and they said you could see right where she landed. But she was about 200 foot on beyond the truck! How does a cat survive that...? even with 9 lives (?).
They got a tow bar made and towed the truck the rest of the way without further incident. Except for the truckers that passed them on the way and asked on their cb's....."what is the story on that little truck behind you?" Another opportunity to tell the Miracle Power of God!
Doyle started the truck the next morning before they hooked it on behind the bus to see if it would start, and see if it would tow. He said it started right up like it always did. He had to crouch down because the top was mashed down too low, but he put it in gear and it moved just fine. He shifted thru all the gears, and not a problem one. He stepped on the brake and it came to a smooth straight stop. Come to find out.....there was Nothing wrong with that truck. Not even were the wheels out of alignment. The two tires were not ruined. They just put them back on the rims and aired them up. It hadn't lost on drop on any fluids. It was just dented on all sides! But HEY! we can live with That! What a beautiful reminder!! "Character"!
They got the top pushed up again, and the glass replaced and she drove that truck for the next 4 years with not a moments problem with it. Even in the SUB ZERO weather of Minnesota!
SO...that is the story.
Joel and Audrey got married on schedule. They are happier and more in love today than the day they married. They completed their education, have moved back to Arizona now, and live about 20 minutes from me now. They are such a delight to me.
What do you think?.... A
Miracle??.... Didn't
God just Give Audrey back to me that day?... I Believe it!!!
I AM SO BLESSED!
JESUS IS
LORD!
