The Setting Son

In second place heading into the last turn at the Olympic Sailing Trials, Cal (Will Schaub) and his partner Sammy (Dave Oliver), execute a daring maneuver to win the race and earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. But, the celebration is cut short when Cal receives a phone call from his mother asking him to come home because his brother Max, who is fighting leukemia, has taken a turn for the worse.

Weak, pale, and bald from radiation treatments, Max's only hope of survival is a bone marrow transplant. The family's prayers are answered when Cal, a one in twelve chance, turns out to be a match.

The two brothers successfully undergo the transplant procedure and Max's health improves. Cal gets increasing pressure from his girlfriend Sarah (Franca Benvenuto), to participate in the Olympics, however he realizes that nothing is more important than his brother's health and decides to stay home and take care of Max.

When Max turns violently ill, doctors inform the family that his immune system is rejecting the transplant. Ultimately, Cal's bone marrow isn't enough to save his brother, and Max dies.

Accepting an invitation to compete in the America's Cup, Cal returns to the world of competitive sailing with a new love of family, inner peace with himself, and no regrets.
