Before the birds are able to fly, they molt first. Molting occurs when the bird's feathers drop and they grow a new set of feathers. And after they finish molting, the will be able to fly. Faith and Bluestar molts twice a year while Joy and Jireh molt once a year. We had clipped Bluestar's wings two weeks before he flew away but somehow he grew so fast. He did not even drop one feather(molting) before he flew away and molting does not occur two weeks after clipping the wings. Mysterious,eh?
