In a meeting room:
Dr. John Long:
Turning off the display, "Well, that is about it people."
"Word for word of the four documents that were discovered on
planet Five, moon Four."
"At least that is the best we can decipher given the poor
shape of the mineral enclosure that they were found in."
Dr. Everet Abel:
"John, I can't believe any of this."
"I think the whole thing is a hoax or some sort of joke."
"Those area eight guys are full of chicanery."
"For one thing, planet five, moon four, never in its
history, had those events, devices, or the technology that
are mentioned in the four letters."
"Nor were any documents ever stored, or sealed, in that way
on five-four."
Dr. John Long:
"Everet, no one is suggesting that the letters actually came
from Five-four, just that, that is where they were found in
the ruins of area eight on five-four."
Dr. Everet Abel:
"Well, that is where the museum was. Did they come from
there?"
Dr. John Long:
"Don't know. All we know is area eight."
Dr. William Billingsly:
"I don't think they came from area eight. I think they
originated in belt one."
Dr. John Long:
"William, That is impossible. No civilization ever lived
in, on, or around belt one!"
Dr. William Billingsly:
"I am not so sure. We've found a lot of techno artifacts
from that asteroid belt. They must have come from
somewhere."
Dr. Everet Abel:
"James, wasn't it you that came up with the hypothesis that
belt one has all the characteristics of a once existing
planet?"
Dr. James Zitrow:
slowly:
Weeelll, it was Dr. Ernst here. She was the first one that
made the case for it. it is hard to believe... but... i
think that it is possible. ...sortof... if you assume a
hell of a lot of unproven 'facts'.
Dr. Mary Ernst
Thank you for the support Bill. The 'facts' are so
overwhelming James, that i am tempted to get out there and
push together all the damn parts again to the iron core to
remake the entire damned planet. There is all the water,
all the hydrous minerals formed in waterborn oceans and
lakes and even lots of organic material; and even some very,
very, large silicon bones. You have to be an idiot to
weight in on the side of discrediting the planet hypothesis.
Our calculations from the mass of belt one is that it was
once a planet of about six to nine thousand miles in
diameter.
Dr. John Long:
Well, folks. science is never short of problems to solve.
I think it is time to wrap up and head out to grab the the
next orbit of the shuttle unless you want to wait another
month to get home.
