Caves used as a safe haven by the enemy, but only temporarily, as there was practically no defense against the flame thrower, at least not that I'm aware of.


An all too familiar scene, Okinawans on the move.



After VJ Day some members of our Battery would be leaving for the States via the Point System. Most of us would not be leaving until December 1945. The Okinawan laundry women would wave good-bye and some of them even had tears in their eyes.




The tree at the right appears to have a makeshift ladder leaning against it. An observation post used by the enemy as an early warning system.
