Josai Volunteer Club
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CHRISTMAS PROJECT
Using cardboard and recycled materials to create and decorate a Christmas tree, Josai Volunteer club students learn how to reuse packaging materials in a creative way while learning about Western culture and Christmas.
The finished tree will be displayed in the school hallway until Dec. 13th, when it will be moved to a display room in Ota City Hall.
Starting with a brown piece of cardboard, the JVC members began their tree at the most basic level.
Using packaging materials such as plastic, paper, cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks, foil, cups and a little creativity, the students decorated the Christmas tree.
Two JVC students show their Christmas ornaments. They used the round cardboard cheese containers shown above to make 3-D oranaments for the tree by gluing recycled paper onto the boxes and coloring them to look like Christmas ornaments.
In this picture, JVC students are gluing green paper to the cardboard tree. After the paper was glued onto both sides, the decorations were ready to be put on the tree.
The finished product! The students displayed their Christmas tree at the school and in the City Hall.
By learning about the environment and seeing how differnet mateirals are used for packaging, the students learned how to recycle materials by re-using wrapping paper, creating artwork, and minimizing the amount of packaging they buy.
