The UAAP South All-Stars thwarted NCAA East's comeback late in the game to take a convincing 94-77 victory, Sunday afternoon at the Big Dome.
La Salle's resident slasher Joseph Yeo, who later emerged as the game MVP, displayed his spectacular skills from the rainbow territory, draining four treys to finish the game with 21 points.
A 19-2 run by the UAAP stars to start the second quarter changed the complexion of the game as it gave them a 48-39 halftime lead after trailing by four after the first canto.
UE main man James Yap and Yeo combined for 21 points at lemon time even as La Salle's Jerwin Gaco and NU's Rey Mendoza had their share of caroms. UAAP South outrebounded NCAA East, 30-22.
Warriors Arnold Booker, Olan Omiping and Yap proved unstoppable from the perimeter as the Southerners coasted to a huge 17-point lead, 70-53 with 10 minutes to go.
With three-point artist Wynsjohn Te mounting a comeback, the beasts from the East cut the lead to nine, 70-61, with eight minutes remaining but the UAAP cagers were quick to retaliate with points coming from Mendoza and Gaco.
Yeo put the final nail on the coffin with back-to-back shots from downtown to raise the advantage to as much as 19 points.
Incidentally, Yeo was also the top vote getter for the UAAP South Team. UE's Paul Artadi, Yap, Gaco and Mendoza joined him in the starting lineup.
UE stalwarts Rolly Masbang, Philip Butel, Jay-ar Estrada, Booker and Omiping were also part of the squad together with AdU's budding center Kenneth Bono and Archer TY Tang. Boysie Zamar was at the coaching helm.
On the other hand, the NCAA East team was headed by Coach Boy de Vera. The team members were JRU Bombers Marco Fajardo, Mark Borboran, Mcdonald Santos, Lester Lindaya and Te, PCU's Ramon Retaga and Jojo Roque, CSB's Ronald Capati, Al Magpayo and Titus Mendoza, and UPHR's Marcel Cuengco and Kyle Misa.
