What more has not been said about ex-Xaverian Joseph Yeo?
Coming from an affluent Filipino-Chinese family whos into the paint retailing business, Yeo has abruptly soared to some sort of a celebrity status, both on and off the campus, thanks not only to his flair for the game of hoops but to his strikingly attractive Chinoy looks.
Along with Archer BJ Manalo, he is a favorite subject and request in local teeny bopper and celebrity-brunt magazines, his shirtless pic in one of the magazines in fact being widely circulated through e-mail by his throngs of shrieking lady admirers.
Not too many know that as early as his fourth year in high school, Yeo was already bound for La Salle, which stemmed from his friendship with former Archer Mika Vainio, who was his teammate for Blu Detergent while playing in the short-lived Philippine Basketball League (PBL) juniors edition.
In fact, while still in Xavier, he was already seen tagging along during the customary post-game dinners of the squad and mingling with the Archers, though he sat at the farthest end of the dining place and was still the Joseph Yeo whos very shy, reserved and serious.
The second of five Xavier standouts to barge into the UAAP after Ateneos Eric Yao in recent years, Yeo is bar none the most popular and talked about Xaverian, if not UAAP player, currently in the collegiate hoopla.
And his game has slowly evolved from his high school days, now armed with that killer fadeaway J, whether straight up or with his back to the basket, that will leave defenders enthralled because the shot, now called the patented Joseph Yeo move, is improbable to be stamped a return to sender.
Girls, sorry, for by now, everyone would have probably known of his love relationship with fair-skinned beauty and ex-Assumptionsita Mia Banzon, to whom Joseph can probably affirm that love is sweeter the second time around. Yup, they used to be ex-sweethearts already.
People from the rival camp have started to criticize him on his on-court attitude as of late but hey, isnt it because they chastise him because hes so spectacular and breathtaking? Or theyre just blue with envy?
GA: Joseph Yeo has now achieved celebrity status. Do you get mobbed while inside the malls?
So kahit papaano, mas nakilala ako lately.
GA: Do people already ask for your autographs?
Yeo: Meron din mga ilan-ilan. Pero hindi naman marami. Usually mga bata.
