Barrows guide
Credits: Gianni russo

Items Needed Spade, teleport runes ALWAYS BRING SOME FORM OF TELEPORTATION OR TRUST ME... YOU HAVE A 1% CHANCE OF LIVING. Items Recommended Attack, strength, and defense potions, restore potion, prayer potions, lots of food, armor, and a very good weapon, ring of recoil. (also druid pouches help with the ghasts) Recommended Quests Need priest in peril, should get In search of myreque (for faster way to barrows), Ghosts Ahoy OR Desert Treasure (For easy teleportation spots),Slave Ammulet (raises 20% to strength and accuracy when fighting the undead) Nature Spirit if you havent done the Myreque quest.

THE MONSTERS IN THIS GUIDE ARE VERY HARD. THE MELEEING BROTHERS IN THIS HAVE A VERY HIGH MAX HIT (some record in the high 50s?), AND THE MAGE USES WEAKENING SPELLS. ALSO EVERYONE OF THE BROTHERS DECREASES YOUR PRAYER POINTS. THERE ARE NO DEFINITE RANGE/MAGING SPOTS FOR THE BROTHERS INSIDE THEIR TOMBS.

Many things in this guide are subject to change for different people, such as penalties for getting a puzzle incorrect, or the things you get in the chest. Most of it comes down to pure unbridled luck. If you are angered easily by failing or get mad because treasure trails never give you what you want... this is not the thing for you to do, because there is less than a 1 in about 10 chance for you to get a piece of equipment (although if you want runes this is a great thing to do ;-)).

How do you get there? The barrows are located just east of Mortton, a very big cemetery to put it bluntly. The easiest way to get here is if you have done the "In search of Myreque Quest," because it proivdes a short route with very little ghasts. Otherwise I'd suggest either druids pouches (3 should be enough), or 100% run. Run straight south from the gate into Mort Myre Swamp (just west of canifis). Keep runnin past little plants and ghasts until you find a bridge leading to a very long road. Turn off your run and follow this path to Mortton, at which keep heading east and slightly south. There is a boatman next to the water, and close to him is a bridge, take the bridge east and go north. At the little town looking place head east and youll find a huge cemetery, this is the barrows.

For those who don't know where Mortton is, it is just south of Canifis. Inside the cemetery there are 6 mounds (or barrows). Each of the 6 mounds contains a small room in which there is a sarcophagus, which contains one of the 6 ghost brothers. One of these contains a tunnel instead of one of the brothers. The tunnel varies from person to person, and always changes after you're done with the task. It is recommended that you kill all 5 of the brothers on the ground before you go into the tunnel and kill the 6th, but not required.

To get into the barrows, simply dig with your spade on top of one of the barrows. The barrow in the very middle contains Ahrim the Blighted, the mage brother, level 98. The most southern barrow (just south of the mage) contains Karil the Tainted, the Archer brother. The other four mounds contains the meleers, Verac the defiled (the flail user, the northwest tomb), Torag the Corrupted (the double hammer user, the southwest tomb), Guthan the Infested (the spear user, the southeast tomb), and Dharok the Wretched (the great axe user, the northeast tomb).

Fighting Tips: Although inside the tombs there are no definite range/mage spots, you might be able to trap the enemy behind a monster or another player, as long as they don't move an no one runs through the fight (almost impossible during the first couple days of the release). Maging is much more effective on the meleers, and if you use snare/entangle, along with a wave spell they die very fast (ice burst and barrage work VERY effectively on these meleers). If you choose to fight the brothers in the tunnel, there is a mage/ranging spot in MOST room, this does not include the small rooms in between. Prayer potions will help, but not unless in large quantities, considering your prayer is drained by 10 or 11 points every 20 seconds or so. The approximate amount of prayer potions needed for a decent level 100 would be about 5 or 6 if you pray on all the brothers. The brothers are very strong and hit very often on low defenses. If you are at least 70 defense you shouldn't be hit too often, but in the case of Dharok, if he hits you it is usually 20+ or so... so no food under lobsters are advised. The mage and ranger are the weakest, so always go to them if you are low on food. If you are wearing dragonhide the mage rarely ever hits, but he uses weakening spells to lower defense, strength, attack, and several other stats. Torag and Verac are the two weaker, less hitting, of the four meleers, but are still by all means strong. Ahrim the mage is weak against slash atacks, and Karil the ranger is weak against stab attacks

After you have defeated all of the 5 brothers located in their respective tombs, head down into the tunnel. You do not have to kill all 5 brothers that are located in their tombs to go into the tunnel, but after you have killed the amount of brothers you wish to kill, find the tomb that contains the tunnel, it will be the only tomb that didnt have a brother in it. NOTE: leaving before you kill them all will not reset the ones you have already killed, you'll just have to walk all the way back.

Guide to get through the tunnel:
STEP 1: You are in the tunnel.. find a way out of your current room

STEP 2: Get yourself all the way you can go in one latitudal direction (N or S).. make sure you end in one of the room, not the small crossways or long halls.

STEP 3: Get yourself all the way you can go in one longitutdal direction (E or W), again make sure you're not in a crossway or hall.

STEP 4: Go one room (not crossway... 1 ROOM) in the opposite direction you chose in step 2 (In otherwords, step 2 and 3 you are getting into a corner).

STEP 5: Now attempt to open the door to the opposite direction you went in step 2, if the door doesnt have an "open selection" then go on through my guide. If you can open the door, but it does not open the puzzle, you did something wrong.. start again.

STEP 6: Go back to your previous room (the corner room) and try steps 4-5 in opposite order (as in if you chose the northeast corner and you went south and then west... go west and then south). If you do not have an open selection keep following the guide, if it says open and doesnt have a puzzle... you have messed up.. start again.

STEP 7: Try opposite selctions for steps 2 and 3 (if you chose northeast corner go to southwest corner).

STEP 8: Do steps 4 and 5 for this new corner... if the door does not have an open selection keep going through guide, if it says open but does not have a puzzle.. start again, you messed up.

STEP 9: Go back to your corner room and do step 8 in the reverse order (if you are in the southwest corner and you went north then east for step 8, go east then north). If this door does not open, or does not have puzzle, start over... you have messed up.

Then tunnel is a 3x3 square with crossways connecting each of the squares adjacent to each other. There are also narrow hallways connecting the nonopposite corner squares.

In the tunnel there are many different levels of monsters, which can hit up to 9 or 10. There are things such as bloodworms, skeletons, rats, spiders, and different forms of these creatures. Do not underestimate these monsters, as even the rats and baby spiders can hit 5s and 6s. While you are in the tunnel you might run across the final brother (or any of the brothers you didnt kill in their tombs). The brothers are not necessarily going to appear for you, but it is very likely you will eventually run into them before you leave the tunnel. Eventually you will come across a door which has a puzzle, which is one of the "which shape comes next" questions. They are pretty simple, but if you get it wrong you might be penalized, by penalized I mean the entire cave will start shaking, randomly hurting you with rocks (just like the monkey madness cave without the overhangs). You will be injured until you find the puzzle door again and answer it correctly (this occurance has happened for some people and doesn't happen for others).

When you get the correct door you will see a room with a giant chest in it. Search the chest to claim your reward and teleport out.

There is some speculation that the amount of kills you get affects the outcome of your chest prize, although this is not entirely proven considering some people get new equipment with 10 kills, while some people with 100 kills dont get anything new.

The ghosts can only be killed once per chest finding, and after you find the chest your kills are automatically reset to zero. Everything you kill after you find the chest does not count towards your next run until you have re-entered the tunnel (via the fighters tomb with the new entrance).

The chest almost always contains a random amount of missle runes, and sometimes contains a half of a key a random amount of coins, or even a dragon item. If you are lucky you will get new armor or a new weapon, but it is nowhere near garunteed. The more ghosts you kill, the better stuff you will get, but it is NEVER guarunteed you will get something you want, just better things if you kill all 6 before searching the chest.
