Tribe Project
- each group of students chooses a Native American tribe,
researches it for 2 weeks, creates visual aids and posters,
completes an outline of information on the tribe (where they
lived, when they lived, what they ate, what they lived in, how
they survived), and presents the information to the class. Each
group also created quiz questions to ask the class at the end of
their presentation.
-
Living Museum of
Explorers - each individual student chose their own explorer
to research. Explorer essays were written and typed, visual aids
were created, students dressed appropriately (they dressed in
the attire of their explorer) as 4 classes toured our Museum and
interviewed each Explorer.
-
Digestive System
TV Show and commercials- each individual student played a
part in a show following the digestion of Amy Apple. Students
customized and memorized their lines, and they created their own
costumes. Working in cooperative groups, students created their
own commercials (script, costumes) after researching about their
topic (laxatives, toothpaste, vegetables, heartburn)
-
State Project
- each individual student chose their own state to research.
Students utilized the internet for most of their research (in
order to get the most recent data). They filled out an outline
to compile their research then transferred the data onto a final
State Project Poster.
-
Building
Project - As a class we planned, designed, and
constructed our very own city of Springdale. 5 top math students
were selected as the City Planners to help aid in the layout of
the final city. Each student completed an application form
(including measurements and costs of their building) and
constructed a model of their building (Buildings included a
hotel, hospital, schools, a library, City Hall, market, pool,
etc). After the application form was completed and approved,
students constructed a 3 dimensional model of their building.
Houses, trees, parks, streets, plants, and rocks were added to
complete the city.
-
College/University
Research Project - students chose a College or University
that they think they may attend (based upon goals, grades,
achievements, desires). Using the internet, and writing letters,
students will conduct research and write a paper listing facts
on how to go to college (what tests you have to take to get in,
average grades, average SAT scores, how much it costs to attend,
how many letters of recommendation are required, how much money
does it cost to apply, when are the application deadlines).
Students will write a letter to themselves addressed for the
year 2008 persuading themselves (in the future) to apply to
college and the benefits of having a college education.
