Him

Part Four

I fell deeper--ah, still deeper
Into the abysmal night.
When noticed, I, from far away
A previously similar light.

As distance grew between us smaller,
It's arms did to me outstretch.
Run I tried, but noticed, I,
Arms were not of filthy wretch.

Gentle were the arms now holding,
Warm with love and soft with care.
Not like those of scorn and scolding
Owned by man with long black hair.

It then surprised me near to fright
When voice so goldenly deep
Came rolling from center of light.
Could still this be my deathly sleep?

I listened as it said to me:
"From the man with long black hair
I will your protector be;
And I am just and fair.

Dost thou accept me as thy guard?"
It silently waited for my reply.
I need not think long nor hard.
"Keep me safe and cover mine eyes.

For the demon-dream, I wish not.
Cover me from the horrid wild."
Though I, in the light, could not spot
It's face--HIS face--I know He smiled.
