Welcome to Project: 205 Diesel.

The Story

The car was first bought when I started to learn to drive. It was a totally standard looking car during this time, apart from the addition of a Sony CDLX400X CD Player and a 500watt Pro-Plus sub. Once I passed my test, it then started to get a few things changed.

The first thing that got changed was the sound system. I bought two 12" Rockford Fosgate RFDVC2112's (500watt RMS a peice) and fitted them to my car along with a Phoenix Gold QX900.1D (1100watts RMS). Unfortunatly due to the massive amounts of bass, the Sony headunit couldnt cope with the vibrations, and was upgraded to a Pioneer MP3 headunit.

After that a few body parts got changed, like the steering wheel, which was a spare off my sisters 106XSI rally car.www.mandytwynhamrallying.com

I then removed the bumpers and replaced them with the 205 GTi skirts that I bought from my local scrapyard (I also got a XS boot spoiler, so if anybody is after one, let me know!). With these replaced, the car looked much lower, but it still didnt look quite right. Unfortunatly due to certain incidents Ive had to replace my front skirt and have replaced the driving lights twice. Now the driving lights are fitted with side lights, so that I can drive with them on without breaking the law. It also has tinted the rear lights on the car, to good effect.

Then I removed the rear silencer, I cut off the original tailpipe and welded in place a larger one, a section of exhaust from a Ford Iveco Cargo lorry!! [This got boring after a while, so acustom, straight through exhaust system using a Burgess silencer (well it certainly doesnt silence anything!) with a slightly smaller stainless steel tailpipe of 3" was fitted].

Then I decided on a "Rally" look so I removed the wheel trims and painted the wheels white (still the standard wheels), this improved it a bit.

Then one day when I was speaking to my friend, he suggested that I buy a boot spoiler from his dad, I looked at it and knew it would fit, so it was fitted to my car.

My sisters 106XSI needed a replacement sunstrip and sponsorship stickers, so while this was being done, I asked if I could have a sunstrip and 'TOW' stickers made for my car. My dad suggested the sunstrip should say 'Powered by Diesel', and thats what got done. I lowered the front number plate to under the GTi skirt and added some brake vents under the skirt too. (See Sprint Day for pictures).

The next thing to get done was the addition of a K&N 57i induction kit, it was fitted to my car after a making an intake adapter and changing the breathers around, and it was on and sounding loud (especially through bridges and the tunnels on the way to Birmingham!!!). This at a later date got replaced by a Pipercross Viper Kit off a Saxo VTS which made an even louder sound!

I had some private plates bought for my birthday (J666 TWY), and these got fitted.

I drove my car around for a long time looking like this, but I needed some new tyres (after all, cheap tyres dont like being thrashed), and as my sister had some original 106 XSI / Rallye steel rims, I fitted them with lower profile tyres. These where too wide for my front arches so I needed wider arches. I couldnt get my hands on any GTi arches at the time, and also without the side strips it would look odd. So once again I headed to the scrap yard, found a VW Golf, and removed the arches from it and some hoe managed to get them to fit.

But one day while I was jet washing my car at a local garage (the hang out for our group!) someone came upto me and asked if I wanted any GTi parts for my car, and I duely bought the full set of gti arch and door mouldings with inserts for it. This ment cutting the rear arches higher to get them to fit, but they didnt scrape after doing this!

My car did have a front splitter for a while which was the original front skirt fitted upside down under the GTI skirt (looked kind of like a cow catcher), it was attached with bracing on the subframe (I tried it without the bracing, but it got ripped off) and brackets on the GTI skirt, but I got annoyed that it caught on every back road, although this did look good at night as people following saw sparks flying under my car (touring car style!), it got removed because if it came off it would pull all of the front of my car apart and it did look kinda bad!!.

The engine bay then got the intake and breather pipes painted red and got an over-braid kit for the other hoses.

The side windows are slightly tinted with a spray (which sort of works)

As a thank you for servicing at a rally, my sister bought me a set of Sparco mudflaps for my car to make it more rally look-alike.

The most recent additions to the car, are huntmaster bucket seats, willans harnesses, an aluminium dash panel, four spot lights (now over 700watts lighting power!!), fan controller and a stripped out interior (using aluminium sheet for door cards, and it has been lowered by 35mm all round.

Ive gone through numerous brake pads and discs, which at the last change got uprated to 106GTi vented discs and EBC green stuff brake pads, its had new anti roll bar bushes, rear brake shoes, handbrake cables etc. It is even fitted with a fly-off handbrake, much to my amusement when it was in for MOT and they couldnt move my car!

I still had a few jobs I would have liked to have done, like fit the 1.9TDi engine that I bought for it for more than a day! This has been fitted but had to be removed due to my insurance company being idiots and not knowing what they are doing! I also had a fake dimma bodykit for it sitting waiting to be fitted and a repsray!

This is the final word on 'Project: 205 Diesel' due to an incident leaving the car on its roof, it has been stripped and scrapped awaiting a new bodyshell, so watch this space for 'Project: 205 Turbo Diesel'
