Livingstone is developing into a tourist attraction very slowly but surely. In the last five years it has jumped from being the shadow of Vic Falls town in Zimbabwe to being in the lime light as a host city of the 1/3 of the Victoria Falls.
For missionary students and staff at leisure, you stand as good a chance of doing your own tourist arrangements as you would under the care of big time tour operators. For instance a taxi driver can take you 5km (about 3 miles) in every direction from the town center for about US$6 to $8 (take you there and back) in each direction. For the same trip you might part with $30 in a tour bus. As a missionary use a reliable taxi driver who is known to your host. It will save you immersurable troubles.
Before you dump the tour package, just do your maths and see if it is not cheaper to do several activities as a single package. There is always the unlucky day when the independent travelor gets punished because operators are trading favors! For instance, if you show up for bungi jumping you may pay $90 fo the jump and $20 for the video. In a good package you could jump, and abseil the gorge plus game view for a flat figure of $150. Main point? Shop arround earlier!
There is a lot to see in Livingstone if you are willing to leave the beaten path that all the tourists follow. But more than sight seeing, I would encourage the Christian visitor to consider taking a day out to do a prayer of action. Pray and ask God what you can do to make a difference. It does not have to cost you money. You can spend time in the market square listening to the stories of marketeers and the challenges in their lives. Western instinct is to feel compelled to put someone out of their misery by providing a short-term solution. That has its place but remember Jesus went to the equivalent of a hospital, healed one man, and left everybody else just as they were--waiting for the angel to stir the water at the pool! Jesus said he only does what he sees his Father doing, so watch your Heavenly Father while you visit!

Why are we in Livingstone? Actually we do not know all the reasons! One thing we know, God said, Livingstone and that is where we are.
We hope and pray that our dream of providing additional services of spiritual renewal to ministers who are burning out, hosting marriage and singles' relationship enrichment workshops, will be a reality soon.
For traveling ministers of the gospel, if Friday morning finds you in Livingstone, do drop in at the Pastor's Fellowship at Cavalry Assemblies of God Church. You will be blessed to be with the church leaders of the city. By the way, if you have a free Sunday afternoon, consider spending it at the youth meeting at the YWAM.  It is an interdenominational chaplaincy service.
For YWAM guests, students, and other missionary volunteers from outside our continent, bring with you the following:
Sun screen (Livingstone is a hot spot from September to February [if the rains are scant])!
If you would carry cash, bring new crisp $50 & $100 notes. You lose 30% of the value on notes smaller than these on the exchange.
Carry a one piece luggage with the barest essentials. It will be easier to take sovenirs if you have space (you can also post them to yourself)!
Have your letter of invitation and visa application ready before you come. It is always better to get it from an embassy abroad than from a border post (see DTS page for link to immigrations website!).
Email us if you want us to organize your airport pick up from Livingstone international airport. We are not a leisure motel (we are missionaries) so be prepared to rough it a little. Welcome!
Ready to go to Zambia? Be prepared!
You can avoid a lot of heart ache and pain by simply reading the homepage of the Zambia yellow pages (click the link below). There is a currency converter, weather forecasts, and a search engine. I have put a link below this box to help you get there. Enjoy Livingstone!
Search the Zambian yellow pages for Livingstone hotels and lodges etc!
