The Fiends
Resembling giant amoebas, the Fiends are large shapless blobs that devour everything in their path. They absorb organic matter and digest it inside their huge bulks. The more they eat, the larger they grow. The larger they grow, the more they can eat. This cycle continues until they split up into many smaller versions of themselves.
Fiend groups, or 'clouds' are uncommon in
the Empire, but certainly not unheard of. They can grow to
gargantuan sizes, with anything up to half a million Fiends of
assorted sizes drifting through deep space, looking out for
planets to digest. When a Fiend infestation is discovered it has
to be rooted out as quickly as possible before the cloud grows
even bigger.
Fiends have been found widespread across both galaxies inhabited
by the Jotun, and seem to thrive on even the most treacherous of
planets. Their biological workings are a mystery, as Fiends
dissolve into a puddle of goo when killed.
