JOE'S FAVORITE 50 RAP SONGS
Gin and Juice     Snoop Doggy Dogg

"Everybody got they cups, but they ain't chipped in
Now this types of shit, happens all the time
You got to get yours but fool I gotta get mine"

Great great song.  The above quote comes in light of our recent parties.  Damn people we don't know, drinking our shit....Needless to say, this is one of my favorites of all time.  I molested my first boy while listening to this song.  His buns were so tender.  I think if any one rap song is a symbol of rap in the era that I've listened, it's Gin and Juice.  I'm not taking any input from you people either.  It is.

Guilty Conscience     Eminem

[Dr. Dre]
"Alright calm down, relax, start breathin.."

[Eminem]
"Fuck that shit, you just caught this bitch cheatin
While you at work she's with some dude tryin to get off?!
FUCK slittin her throat, CUT THIS BITCH'S HEAD OFF!!!"

[Dr. Dre]
"Wait! What if there's an explanation for this shit?
(What? She tripped? Fell? Landed on his dick?!)"

The first truly great song Eminem made.  I like how short both Dre and Eminem's verses are.  They go back and forth through the song, and really sound like they're part of some kind of internal conflict.  It doesn't count for anything in this list, but I really like how the video was done too.  The scene freezes and Dre and Eminem are arguing in circles around the guy.  If anyone ever had this idea, they never executed like this.  Oy.  It's kind of hard talking about songs that everyone knows.  I'll close with this neat fact: if Eminem was spelled "Eminim", it would spell "Mini Me" backwards.

California Love     2-Pac f. Dr. Dre

"Now let me welcome everybody to the wild, wild west
A state that's untouchable like Elliot Ness"

You may remember how much I love it when people combine their talent.  You may also remember how much I love 2-Pac.  You may remember how much I respect Dr. Dre.  Even if this song wasn't great, it'd probably be top 25 for me.  It is great though.  There is absolutely nothing that sounds anything like this song.  Unique, fun, good, and classic.  There are those that would say it is fortunate Bone isn't in this song, and even I agree.  I don't think it can be improved upon.  Unless maybe Phil Collins sang a verse.  That'd be cool.

Stan     Eminem f. Dido

"I just don't want you to do some crazy shit
I seen this one shit on the news a couple weeks ago that made me sick
Some dude was drunk and drove his car over a bridge
and had his girlfriend in the trunk, and she was pregnant with his kid
and in the car they found a tape, but they didn't say who it was to
Come to think about, his name was.. it was you"

You want a song with a story?  Here it is.  The whole song is Stan and Eminem's letter correspondence, read aloud by the "author".  The first three verses are letters written by Stan, starting with a plain letter.  In the second verse, well, you know how the damn song goes...What am I, your slave?  In the end, my favorite part of the song, Eminem realizes that the guy he saw in the news was Stan.  That part used to give me goosebumps for the first 20 times I heard it.  Anyway, Eminem uses that sample from Dido, and my theory is that "Stan" was so popular that Dido's song became popular.  I think that song wouldn't have ever been noticed if Eminem didn't use it.  One thing you gotta wonder while listening: did Stan not realize that his letters all rhymed and flowed well while writing?  What about the audio tape?  Did he never realize his potential as a rapper?  Anyway, this song was so huge when it came out, because it's great.  Great story, great sound, great ass.  I don't know what that means.

Tha Crossroads     Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

"Follow the Lord all 24/7 days, GOD is who we praise
even though the devil's all up in my face
But he keeping me safe and in my place"

I'm sure many of you thought that this song would be my #1.  Well you're wrong.  Take that.  I don't feel that I have to say anything to justify putting this song here.  You know I like Bone, this is their top song.  So why don't you get outta my face?  This song is just put together well.  One of those songs that is bigger than the sum of its parts.  Bone gets the #4.  In unrelated news, I accidentally skipped a couple songs.  Please refer to "Dear Mama #16, Keep Their Headz Ringing #17".  Whoopsie-doodles.
