JOE'S FAVORITE 50 RAP SONGS
Hailie's Song     Eminem

"So sayonara, try tomorra, nice to know ya
My baby's travelled back to the arms of her rightful owner
And suddenly it seems that my shoulder blades have just shifted
It's like the greatest gift you can get
The weight has been lifted "

If anyone cared about this list, I'd guess that this pick would outrage some people.  I do have a problem with it: if it's really "Hailie's song", it's not a very nice song.  It's still great though.  Soothing on the ole' ear drums.  I like it because Eminem is changing and improving a bit on every C.D.  In this one, he sings, and though it's not the greatest, it's still good, and much better than I would have expected.  He also has his own voice, changing from the soft to the angry Eminem.  And of course, the lyrics go together well, even better than they used to.  I hope Eminem keeps getting better until we die.  Look back at all the C.D's....Is there any question that each new one is better than the last?  I'm kind of worried for him though, because can he improve upon this one?  We'll see, I guess.

Lose Yourself     Eminem

"but he keeps on forgettin
What he wrote down, the whole crowd grows so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's chokin, how everybody's jokin now
The clock's run out, time's up over, blaow!
Snap back to reality, Oh there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked
He's so mad, but he won't
give up that easy, No
He won't have it , he
knows his whole back city's ropes
It don't matter, he's dope
He knows that, but he's broke
"

I think he wrote these words before the movie.  They're just too perfect.  This song puts to shame the other songs where he includes tidbits of where he came from.  This one is one of my favorites as far as lyrical sound goes.  He also uses great music, from piano to guitar, and sets a good mood.  I actually don't like it as much as I could, but I can't discredit how good it is any farther than #13 on this list.

Crossroad     Bone Thugs-N-Harmon
y

"Put down your forties, pick up your fists, and handle that shit like men, 'cause
too many punks out there pumpin', thinkin' your gat is your friend"

"You're livin' off in my prayers
Gotta let the Man upstairs know that somebody cares
Just wait, and I'll be there.
"

First off, this probably isn't the song you're thinking of.  This one's the original.  Secondly, this is the first song I couldn't pick one quote.  I'd recommend you listen to this song, or at least read the lyrics.  This is the potential Bone had, when they weren't talking about people stealing their style or talking about smoking weed.  I think the tone of this one is better than in "Tha Crossroads", but the song isn't as good for the public, I guess.  Or something.  I don't know.  I think we are officially into the great songs portion of my list.  I don't know.  I may have to raise this even higher and hope you people don't notice.

Ms. Jackson     Outkas
t

"Hope that we feel this
Feel this way forever
You could plan a pretty picnic
But you can't predict the weather, Ms. Jackson
"

If I was an English teacher I would teach metaphors through rap lyrics.  And yo mama jokes.  This song is a perfect blend for me.  It tells a story, it tells a story that's not dumb, the lyrics sound good together, it has good background music, they lyrics don't feel stretched for the sake of rhyming, and it's damn catchy.  Thank you, Outkast.

Thug Luv     Bone Thugs-N-Harmony f. 2-Pac

"Pleasure and pain, stuck in this game, holler my name
We all gone die.  We bleed through similar veins "

"trying to put a twist in this thugsta
era Paired up with a nigga like Pac"

This may be the song I've heard most in my life.  I think this is the first song I ever listened to on repeat, trying to figure out the lyrics.  It's not easy, believe me, and I've looked at lyrics pages and stuff, and I'm still not sure on some parts, and there are some parts that I am sure of that I just can't do.  I'm not sure if there's any song out there besides this one where I can know the lyrics for about 5 years, and still be incapable of singing it.  This song, to me, is done by the all-star team.  The only thing that could make it better is if Eminem had a verse too.  This is the "shotgun beat" song.  Bone and 2-Pac.  So much better than Bone and Biggie in Notorious Thugs.  A solid pick for the #10 song.
