| JOE'S FAVORITE 50 RAP SONGS |
| Ready or Not Fugees "I play my enemies like a game of chess" You may have guessed that this line would appeal to me. It's cool though. I think the video for this song was the most expensive ever made at one point. I don't know why. I don't see what was worth paying for in it. Except maybe the submarines. The song really is great though. I always liked it way more than Killing Me Softly. The lyrics aren't exactly great, but my love for this song pulled it all the way up to #25. ATLiens Outkast "Now throw your hands in the ay-yer And wave 'em like you just don't cay-yer And if you like fish and grits and all that pimp shit Then everybody lemme hear ya say O-Yea-yer" Out of all the crazy-ass songs, this one's my favorite by far. No great lyrics, no great message, nothing deep. Just one of my favorite beats and probably my favorite chorus ever written. I remember I used to like this song a lot when it first came out and I lived in Oklahoma. I kind of forgot about it since then, and back then, Outkast wasn't really anyone. Then I rediscovered it and realized it was Outkast. Pretty amazing. If ya like fish and grits?! Great! Renegade Jay-Z f. Eminem "Cause see they Call me a menace And if the shoe fits I'll wear it But if it don't Then y'all will Swallow the truth Grin and bear it" There's not much I love more than when rappers combine talent, or musicians in general. One Sweet Day: awesome. I don't feel like listing any of them, because the more I list, the more blasphemous it becomes to not list some that I'll inevitably forget or ignore. If you have any questions why Eminem is my favorite, go look up the lyrics of his songs and compare them with other rappers. First of all, Eminem sounds better anyway. He has a gift with words. Second, his lyrics read coherently. They aren't just thoughts listed down to steer the song in a direction. They sound great and don't try to stretch the English language like some others do. I just hope he finds some more stuff to sing about, because it gets hard to talk about the same stuff after a while. I think he's still doing a great job adapting to higher and higher expectations, but that's for later in the list. If I Ruled the World Nas f. Lauryn Hill "So many years of depression make me vision The better livin, type of place to raise kids in" I feel a little bit ashamed to admit this but here it comes: this is the only Nas on my list. I just haven't gotten into him yet. I haven't even really heard that much from him. I've heard "One Mic", "The Message", "Nastradamous", and I think that's it. Anyway, I remember the first time I heard this song, I was walking home from the bus one day at the bus stop that I usually didn't get off at. There were two bus stops and.....oh yeah. Sorry again. Good song, awesome little piano "riff", the lovely and amazing Lauryn Hill in an early role, and of course, Nas. Look Into My Eyes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony "And that's just like a nigga wanna take all the credit I bet it didn't even occur that we would eventually meet with ya, kid Don't crash, collide, lock up with the enemy And I don't wanna say a nigga's name and all that but a y'all fin to get stomped, (Woosh!) let 'em loose And they heard the news, ya run up, ya could get dead, oh" This whole song is about people trying to steal their style. Their mad. I'm not. I wish everyone would steal their style so I could have more of it. It has a great intro music...."Boooooyee-ooo-oooo"! That's how it sounds to me. If you don't know, you better ax somebody. Anyway, this one is probably my most personally overrated Bone song. Still good though. I think it may have been on the Batman Forever C.D., but you know my policy in finding out this kind of thing. G's and Hustlaz Snoop Doggy Dogg "and i'm still gonna fade em all With the gangsta shit that keeps ya hangin How many hoes in ninety-four will I be bangin?" Speaking of "you better ax somebody", this track starts with the substitute teacher (who, to me, sounds like that Tone Loc guy, but I'm not gonna check) talking about jobs to a classroom of little kids. They all want to be firemen and stuff. Then stuff happens. Anyway, my friends and I always thought it was funny. This has a great music box intro and a great piano background. I think it was the first real tune I ever picked out on a piano. This is one of my favorite songs off of what is probably favorite rap C.D. And it's good. That gets it a 20. Page 6 |
